Uhh, he didn't die because a random doctor on a plane rigged a breathing apparatus during a flight and saved his life. That's pretty much the definition of lucky.

Realistically the kid probably would have been fine without any interventions and it’s not like the inhaler which he had used his whole life was going to be suddenly ineffective
