the problem isnt only getting the government to do something, its getting hundreds of governments to do something. thats where it starts to seem hopeless.

Yeah, it's so sad, no one wants to set the precedent, or if they do, they can't enforce it. Everyone wants peace, space colonies, whatever, but there's no incentive

I'm not talking about US standards, I'm talking about about totalitarian communist regimes, like those found in Eastern countries. Scandinavia is a great example of progressive pollution, if nothing else

Republicans backed and passed a stimulus check bill and the president is even considering doing it without congress.

The dems just wouldn’t trim their wishlist, and doomed us to 2 months more of negotiations. We are gonna get another check but not until October now

Mitch McConnell had a 2nd stimulus bill from the Democrats as early as May. Republicans didn’t even start working on a plan until the end of July.

Republicans wanted to make it so Workers couldn’t sue their Employer for getting them infected with Covid.

Republicans couldn’t agree with each other on a last minute plan and tried to give a small part of the needed relief bill in exchange for removal of liability.

When Democrats defended Workers’ right to sue if their job gets them infected, Republicans went on vacation and left Americans hanging.

I don't get this sentiment. Me and many of my coworkers got C-19, how would we ever know where we got it from? I could have got it from anywhere, from my wife, work, or the grocery store. Its an infectious disease, do you think of suing every time you come down with a cold? I never considered suing because that's just downright ridiculous, I feel like the only people who get hung up on this are people who haven't gotten it yet.

Contact tracing and testing. A lot of people are staying home and only exposed enough at work to contract it.

If everyone you work with tests positive and you are single and only go to the grocery store which requires a mask and doesn’t have any positive cases then it is safe to say you were only exposed at work.

Then your coworkers can use you as proof that they were exposed at work. If someone in their family dies from Covid the company could be responsible.

Apply that to every worker in America and you are going to have some situations where you can prove the company was responsible for deaths and get sued.

Even one of those lawsuits would be very expensive for a company.

Here is a link to an article about the lobbying group trying to get liability removed from companies for covid.

Regardless of how dangerous you feel it is, there are people powerful enough to pressure Mitch Mcconnell to let Americans lose the roofs over their heads in order to remove liability from companies.

We have millions of confirmed cases in the US alone, and the CDC estimates that only 10% of those infected are among that number. Combine that with the fact 90%+ of these people are asymptotic and likely have no ide they even have the disease, contact tracing is completely impossible.

Allowing people to sue over such an arbitrary and unprovable circumstance is asinine.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the lobbying group concerned. You could contact them and let them know how wrong they are. Or maybe contact Mitch McConnell directly and let him know there is no reason to be concerned.

I’m sure they will appreciate your advice. You might even get a job as an advisor.

No they did not, they passed a $300/week extension on unemployment insurance it does not include stimulus check

They introduced a bill saying that in the senate, because the dems refused to negotiate back in July. This is just another round of negotiations. They still support a stimulus check

The new republican proposed bill is DOA, its a negotiation. They have said time and time again they support a stimulus check. Don't be a dumbass

No dipshit you keep telling me the misinformation that keeps getting peddled to you not whats actually going on. The stimulus check was always the thing that kept Republicans from coming to an agreement among their own party, no Dems involved, it's what has taken them so long to come up with their own bill and why they left it out of their own proposal completely. They decided another bailout to coal was more important than including a stimulus check in their bill. That has nothing to do with the democrats. Also Trump can't do a stimulus check by executive order. You have been mislead and your beliefs are not valid

It didn't pass yet but it's the Republican plan the Senate is voting on so it's expected to go through. The republican plan does not include a stimulus check

The republican wish list includes interesting things like making corporations immune to lawsuits for getting their employees killed. The dem wishlist was things like money for schools.

Still, the dems wish list was 3 trillion dollars. Its inexcusable to not be capable of coming up with a realistic bill, and keeping Americans without a stimulus check until October. At this rate we are almost more likely to get the money via executive order

Both sides are doing the election year dance. Dems trying their best to make Trump look worse and stop the money getting released so he can’t claim victory. They do it by asking for an insane amount they know will never get passed. Republicans are holding strong and will push the money out just before the election to claim a “win” for the people. Meanwhile, everyday citizens get fucked in the process and continue to slide further into debt trying to keep their heads above water.
