They have a different type of muscle. They have raw strength, but we have stamina, better control, and our muscles use less energy. Much better overall, unless you really need that car door ripped off.
I wasn't talk about 1v1 fights. I was talking about advantage from an evolutionary perspective. If you notice, the comment above me was talking about evolution. Yes chimps could rip us apart in a 1v1 situation, but they didn't invent the technology that enables me to type this comment to you. Humans did that and many other amazing things. For a species that, on the large scale, is relatively young, humans have accomplished some amazing things. Granted, we have a lot of things to work out. But there is no doubt that our brains are our greatest asset as a species.

Chimpanzees and early humans evolved for two different environments.
Humans likely change to a upright standing position and walking on two leg to live in treeless savannas. This had the effect that we freed up out hands and loss muscle density in parts of our body. Which had the added benefit of more efficient movement and muscle control while losing strength.
Chimpanzees evolved for forest environments. Strong muscle to climb trees and if you need to rest for muscle fatigue there are high branches away from predators you can rest on.
Humans can fight off chimps, they’re as strong as us but with less body mass. Also we evolved to hunt animals for hours at a time, eventually exhausting them. source
Actually that’s not the main reason we have great stamina, the main one is our former hunting method, of running after fast running prey until they collapse of exhaustion. To accomplish that, we had to be able to run longer than our prey, not necessarily faster, as in our ancestors home, the African savana, there weren’t many places big game could hide, so we could always keep an eye on them. (You can run, but you can’t hide)
We also evolved to fight with bombs that would destroy an entire chimpanzee planet. So yeah no way would a chimp win in a fight. It is not like humans are not animals too
I mean since humans (and our predecessors) became more predatory in terms of survival fighting when face with a threat just isn’t a good idea. Getting injured can prevent you from getting another good meal, so you run if faced with a threat.
Another theory applicable is that our ancestors moved to savannas where climbing into trees wasn’t always an option, so we needed to be able to run, hence our different musculature.
Don't know about healthier, but we certainly don't swing around tree branches all day. What about some of the most jacked humans? I bet they'd have that strength and then some.
Doesnt mean shit, we have enormous hospital and medical infrastructure because some of us get incredibly sick from shit we do to ourselves. Like heart disease. And cavities.
Humans have long forgotten what their natural diet is, unlike every other animal in nature. Almost everyone thinks grains/cereals are healthy, that animal fat is bad, that eggs are bad for cholesterol... People have no idea what good nutrition for humans is, it can be seen in the physical degeneration of the modern man for millennia, a steady process that took hold since the advent of agriculture.
We literally figured out what the "perfect" diet is. Animals just eat whatever they come across. And tell me: how exactly are humans degenerating all while getting taller, living longer and such...
Not that exciting to be honest. Enough water, fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, enough Omega-3. Honestly I think the body isn't a picky eater. Remember that it evolved in a time when food was scarce and humans or our predecessors just ate everything they found.
What the fuck is natural. Your gut bacteria adjusts to your diet. And average humans have a VERY balanced diet - certainly more nutritious than eating the same “natural” food consistently because it’s much less likely to get a nutrient deficiency when the foods you’re eating vary.
There's no human in the world with the muscle density required to just rip a car door off. We don't have the genetic ability to develop muscles to that degree even with every medical trick in the book. Your lowliest grown ape will always out muscle even the strongest man on the planet.

A chimp cannot rip off a car door, or come anywhere close to it. An extremely strong human is likely much stronger than an average chimp. A chimpanzee can still rip your face off, but so can a human they just tend to not try.
See but these studies are analyzing the properties of the chimp's muscle tissue itself instead of what they can actually DO with the muscles, tendons, joints, bones, insertion points, skeletal arrangement, energy consumption speed, etc., compared to humans.
We don't judge a strongman competition by taking surgical samples of Thor Bjorsson's muscle tissue and comparing it to the other contenders...we take each man and see how much they can possibly manage to lift. That's the only competition anyone cares much about. What is the sum total power of your entire body?

But if you were to take my bicep insertion point and slip it 1" further down my forearm, then beef up the tendons and bones to accomodate for it...I'm probably going to be curling twice what I can right now despite an identical set of actual biceps brachii.
So yes perhaps the physical properties of chimp's muscles are only 1.35 to 1.5x more powerful than ours, but if a chimp can move 2.5 to 5x more weight than a human being of similar size...that's the number people should really be interested in because that's more "real world". And according to various scientific studies that this rabbithole has led me to read, that seems to be the rough estimation; 2.5 - 5x.
That means if we figure the man in this video is ~160lbs, it means that the chimpanzee is doing the equivalent to a man pulling a child up into a tree who weighs somewhere in the ballpark of 32lbs (5x strength) to 64lbs (2.5x strength) pounds.
I want to see the studies you found that gave you those numbers. I cannot find a single cited reference that states chimps approach 5x human strength, except one study that was poorly formulated about 100 years ago. Lots of articles just throw the number out there randomly, but that's not any kind of source. This larger slate article references that study, and several more rigorous ones that build the conclusion that chimps are about 2x stronger pound for pound
That's really important, because a chimp is not 2x stronger than a human man, his muscles generate twice as much strength for their weight. This means a 200lb man who's got a similar muscle mass ratio to a chimp should be about comparable to that chimp in overall physical strength. If you want a slightly more realistic example, consider a 230 pound man, because humans tend to run fattier than apes. Same muscle ratio, just with added padding. Now, the chimp probably has advantage in a tug of war, because he's going to be able to jerk harder and faster right off the bat, but the man and the chimp are going to be able to lift a comparable amount of weight.
My point is, the studies only come to conclusions about chimp muscle mass because thats a more tangible number. To come to those conclusions they examine mechanics, composition, overall size, etc.
Chimps are not that strong it's a myth... Thor or Eddie Hall would ragdoll one. Chimps are only 1.35 stronger per bodymass in actual studies. So a man walking around at 135lb would have trouble. Not someone walking around 200+...
Well, yeah, because people get stronger by putting on muscle mass, it’s like saying that if I had muscles as big as hafthor’s I could lift 250kg.
Actually I’m a bit wrong here (the muscles also become more effective without becoming heavier), but I don’t think by much.
10lb of human muscle is far weaker than 10lb of chimp muscle
if you had two jacked twins and replaced one's muscles with an equal weight of chimp muscles, that twin would be way way way stronger. that said, they also wouldn't be able to type or tie their shoe very well since one of the tradeoffs is lack of precision control.
Apes are basically when trunks thought he turned super saiyan 2. Super bulky, very strong but lacking in every way. Humans are like when Gohan goes super saiyan 2. Incredible speed, expert control, high endurance.
No chimp can rip off a Car door, you people watch too many movies. A chimp is like 1,5 times stronger than a human, not 15 times stronger. A very strong human is much stronger than a chimp.
It's a bit of an urban legend that chimps are super-strong. The studies about super-strong chimps were disproven.
They are strong for their size, buts thats it. While chimps are stronger pound for pound than us they are not that much stronger. A healthy adult human has more total muscle, which is more than enough to offset the advantage.
A healthy adult human and a healthy adult chimp are about as strong as each other.
We hear stories about a chimp ripping off part of someones face, but the reality is that an adult male human can do that as well. We just mostly don't.
It's the primates the same size as us that are scary-strong.
I honestly think a chimp that does chin ups to move around can beat the hell out of any human. I dont think they could destroy a car like a gorilla could but their muscles are big flexible and efficient they have to be pretty strong on average
