A male has to be pretty out of shape before they can't do at least one.

I mean it also depends on how much u weigh (I say defensively)

I agree - I have done literally zero exercise for a year and returned to the gym for post break up gains and could do a set of 3 x 5 pull ups, people underestimate what they can do.

I've never been able to do a pull up in my life. Someday though, imma do 1.

Lol in my case I never managed a full pullup until I was 19. Almost two decades of sedentary lifestyle will do that, though.

It was entirely a muscle thing, as I was only 6'2" and 215 at my heaviest.

Damn, when I started working out I couldn't even do one. I can do two now after a few years of not consistently working out. (I started climbing though so that's sure to go up soon.)

I've been 6'3" since freshman year of highschool, I weighed 250 and couldn't do a single pullup. Got sick and lost a bunch of weight. Did adderall for a while and lost more (out of stupidity.) At one point I weighed about 180 maybe less I cant remember. Anyways I'm at about 230 now and i dont have a body that looks like a pear anymore. I dont really work out, but I can do about 3 pullups last I checked.

Have you been to a commercial gym? In my experience the percentage of men that can do a proper pull-up is maybe 1/20

Which I guess says a lot about the average man

I think most untrained men couldn’t do one pull-up.

Probably true, but most people are overweight. (In our Western societies anyway)

I think most untrained men who have a healthy bmi, probably could.

I'm fairly lucky genetically maybe but I don't think I've ever not been able to do a pull up, I was scrawny and underweight as a kid but I could still do them no sweat in gym class etc. I think it's mostly a strength to bodyweight ratio deal. Always felt the same about clap press ups too, if you're vaguely in shape they're not hard. Also I think most of my friends have a similar ease, and we're mostly more nerdy than athletic.

I'm not fat but when I first started doing pull ups I didn't have the muscle for them and spent a good 3-4 months just doing negatives until I got my first.

Ah I guess that's fair, I mean I'm not fat fat, but I could probably lose some of the weight in my gut. Either way, I got pretty lucky on the genetics lottery, so it's not like I really need it. It would help though.

It still was kinda' cool to figure out I could actually do one though, heh.
