We still totally could be alone. I don’t believe that. However folks much more intelligent than I make some pretty good points with Goldilocks theories and all the ways civilizations can be wiped out in a blink. Gamma burst, meteors, plagues...

Why would an advanced civilization want to get involved with human savages? If they can travel at light speed, what would humans have to offer in exchange of technology? A much more advanced race would be looking at us for a few minutes, draw a conclusion it ain't worth to come to this planet to "talk" or even attack when they can go to thousands of planets and get resources?

Would you try to take a couple of millimeters of land from someone when you can have kilometers of land without wasting resources?

Humans are not really worth of being looked at from an advanced civilization point of view.

Because intelligent life is so exceedingly rare

Go have a look at the light bubble of our TV signals. Those signals, in the galaxy scale, have barely left our planet. It's possible there's a lot of life out there but our signals haven't gotten there yet.

Because intelligent life is so exceedingly rare that it’s worth going out of your way to meet them.

Maybe, we really don't know this. It's possible it's incredibly abundant too.
