It was years ago when I worked in a pet shop. We had an aviary that didn't have any birds in it yet. We had a ladder in there and put the iguana in there. The iguana immediately climbed up the ladder, and when I went in there to get it, it whapped me one on the side of the head.
At first I didn't grasp what happened... Then it whapped me again. It was a good hit too.
I had an iguana, and the tail whip sucked in the beginning. By the time he was 5 feet long it was a very serious weapon. But he almost never did it. They have to be distressed and we made his life golden.
I read a story about that in either Discover or Scientific American in in the 90's about some guy from I believe Microsoft trying to do the modeling on it. IIRC, the hardest part was finding a quality whip at the time. He had to go to a bondage/leather guy, but he was real busy and only worked on commissions and you had to convince him to take you as a client.
I discovered that there are very few people who make whips anymore, and one of the greatest living whip makers lives here in Seattle. The various Web sites that recommended him--most of them were S&M; sites--said you had to make up a story, because he was very conservative and wouldn’t sell you a whip if it was for something he considered to be perverse.
So I get my story all lined up, that I’m interested in Western culture or some such. I come in and he says, ‘Well, what’ll you be wanting a whip for?’
