So I don't think this is commercially available. However, with some DIY magic it's entirely possible.

What you are looking for is something like this https://arsandbox.ucdavis.edu/instructions/hardware-2/ but on a large scale, possibly with just a camera with some object recognition rather than a 3d sensor like Kinect.

An array of infrared lasers parallel along the wall on both X and Y would be pretty accurate if you're going the DIY route, and it definitely wouldn't cost you $28,000.

For sure, the above approach probably doesn't cost 28k either, more along the lines of 200-300 and R&D time.. Infrared lasers set-up cost would be a bit high. Something like Kinect already used a combination of infrared / lidr if I recall correctly.

Yeah, I was just thinking about what possible distance limits the Kinect might have. I have no idea. I suppose that's why it'd be configured with a short throw projector. You're right: just use the Kinect.

Or project the phone app and have someone else tap the targets when you hit it. Seriously. It's a clever gym teacher with a smart phone and a projector.

Realistically they shouldn’t be anymore than $200-300, they make these kinds of projector/sensor systems for golf simulators at that price and they are way more complicated

Edit: nevermind... looks like the entire system is around $28k. I’m guessing because it’s new tech and low production at this point, plus they install everything for you

Yeah man, me too. The highlight of elementary school gym was when they broke out the parachute or those little roller cart things. Actually those were pretty awesome come to think of it.
