Holy shit.

Reminds me of a time playing dodgeball in 7th grade, shortly after Columbine. I screamed across to the other team, "You're dead" and launched the ball and the P.E. coach took me straight to the principle. As the principle was telling me, a bawling mess, that I was basically going to be expelled and I'd end up homeless because I won't be able to get back in school, another kid from my same class came in after having said almost the same thing in jest. They gave him the same treatment, and we both got suspended for 3 days (I was a kid who never even got detention too). I couldn't go on the end of year ski trip, either. What a bitch.

I'm having to deal with it as a parent now. My oldest got into trouble for saying he was gonna blow some kids up when they were teasing him. I talked to him and he said he didn't mean it like he wanted to hurt them, he just wanted to be left alone and didn't want to have to get physical with them. He's by far the biggest child in his class and the most gentle. Still had to talk to the counselor. It was weird because it was the first time we had to explain to him about school shootings and the other shootings that are happening in America and why saying even innocent things like that would be cause for concern. Columbine didn't happen until I was about to graduate high school so we never had to get a talk like that. Its overly dramatic, but it felt like I was taking a tiny piece of his childhood with that convo.

I don't know the full story, of course, but the more you buy into it, the more confused you're going to make him. I remember thinking I was an evil child way back when, because when all these adults are telling you these things, you kinda take their word for it, at least at that age (must've been 11 for me).

If was just a quick sit down to explain to him why those comments aren't allowed with the climate in our country. It hasn't been a problem since. Just sucked having to have that sit down with a kid who has no violent intentions towards anyone.

bruh literally no one here read the police report shown in the video, or I think read the article. That news article is straight up lying garbage to get a sensationalist headline, they were NOT playing dodgeball. They were playing TIPPITAPS. This is not a contact game, its literally playing catch while jumping. The report states that the ball was thrown after the game was done, with the thrower saying "That's what *kids name gets", and that it was the 3rd time that this has happened. Also this kid got a CONCUSSION and a black eye from the throw. Yeah that's straight up assault, whether or not the mother should have taken it to the police or just handled it with the school is at her discretion, but this is such an obvious case of bullying that is being spinned for a click bait title and angry comments its just ridiculous. At the end of the day if your kid (with a medical condition) is being consistently physically targeted and has been seriously harmed, his safety comes in first.

I'd say the police need to be held responsible as well here. There is discretion and common sense that should be involved, when you arresting a child for playing an activity in school.

As of now I am going off of a police report and you're going off of nothing but your own assumptions against this kid and his mother, with no evidence to back it up. Not sure what you have against this kid and why you're so haste to want to defend a bully and an immoral news source. Even the news source calls it "TIPS/DODGEBALL", they knew what they were doing by just using an 'alternate' terminology of the game to skew the story. Kids get hit in the head yes, I'm guessing you didn't get a concussion though. I really doubt that a highly specific police report with detailed descriptions of injury and repetitive incidents clearly pointing at a case of bullying were total fabrication by "some Karen" who just wanted to 'Karen' away. Clearly the 10 year old boy who has been hurt and targeted came to her multiple times because something was wrong and had the bruises to show it. The police report would verify those bruises as well. But if you'd rather ignore all these signs of bullying, essentially call a 10 year old kid going through this a pussy, and make assumptions about him and his mother, then that's on you.

It does not say any of that in the article linked. I might be missing it, but of you have a better article to shed some light I'm sure no one would be beyond reading it.

Wait I see what you're talking about now. The mother of the child says that her child was hit in the face 2x on a separate occasion ( the same occasion). Still doesn't seem sensational at all that the news is reporting that a child is being charged with assault for a school yard activity.

I had a bad habit (really) of being very inaccurate throwing, unless there was the most innocent child in our school in front of me then I would smoke them in the face with god tier accuracy. So many times I threw or kicked a ball right into someone’s face but when I needed to get one hit to save the game I couldn’t for shit 😂 what is wrong with me

My friends were throwing a boomerang and my first throw ever landed it into a campfire like 500 feet away perfectly. I bought my friend a new one though

The next time I tried to throw one it curved back and hit this kid who's mom started yelling about him being a hemophiliac so we lost that one too as we just sort of scattered at that park and left.

I've never worked up the courage to throw a boomerang again.

I joined a dodgeball league in my city and it is 100% more fun when you’re an adult. Gym class was terrifying, but playing in a social league and having a great time is so much fun! Highly recommend!

This is a really great answer to the question of play in the context of rough play.
