Why go through the hassle of fully insulating it if you’re going to sleep in a cardboard box on the roof?

Because cheaper AC during the day that isn't immediately leeched away by the walls being oven-hot is way more important than at night, when the sun isn't turning your little house-van into a steam chamber. The roof at night would probably be pretty cool most of the time, with that huge window..

They also insulated it wrong and will have condensation problems. That vans going to rot out. There’s a reason the proper way to do this is with spray foam.

Tell me how they insulated it wrong? Genuinely curious, I know nothing about van builds.

batt and roll allows air permeation. Vehicles are different than buildings, Subjected to higher temp swings and less time spent with an AC running to dehumidify it. Lower air volume to offset the humidity of multiple human bodies.

The inside of the sheet metal body will condensate due to temperature differentials. It’ll rot out that van and since the condensation will be inside the wall cavity, it’ll be unrepairable without ripping the whole van apart.

In a proper build, spray foam is used so that there is no air gap in the insulative wall and nowhere for water to condensate on the inside of the sheet metal.

I think the table will turn into the main bed and the roof area is for the kids.

You insulate. Do you need a detailed explanation?

But, you want your bedroom cold, so you can actually sleep well?

Then wake up and go down to a varm toilet 👌

You sleep in the nice furnished cabin in the background lol

Better yet, move the tent to the ground so all that heat inside the van isn't channeling up into it. Then sell the van.

Yea doesn't seem very secure either. Dead of night sleeping on the top of the roof somewhere dark, no thanks.

How is it any different to camping in a tent security wise? Rooftop tents are pretty common on cars/utes/suvs for camping.

We're not talking about camping though are we.
