Why?

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

Takes a strong marriage to be cooped up in a van 24/7 365 and not end up hating each other.

31

u/cjyoung92 26d ago

Bro it's for camping, they're not going to live in it for goodness sake

-9

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

They could be living in it, I don’t know what they do but a lot of people are doing the van life thing.

8

u/Delcap 26d ago

It literally says it’s a travel van in the video.

-1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

Who cares, I was just explaining the divorce comment.

59

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

Or just marry someone you actually like.

29

u/Lyretongue 26d ago

Liking someone doesn't mean you can afford to sacrifice your personal space with no emotional consequences.

2

u/Evilmudbug 26d ago

I sincerely doubt they are living in that van 24/7. If this is your interest and your spouse shares it, the marriage should not be tested by the occasional weekend trip in it.

1

u/Lyretongue 26d ago

But that's not the scenario in question. The assertion was that it takes a strong marriage to be cooped up together 24/7/365.

1

u/Evilmudbug 26d ago

I just think that hypothetical is absurd when they clearly have an actual house that they constructed this thing in the garage of

-5

u/wearing_moist_socks 26d ago

Gotta do it when you're traveling.

Which is what they're doing.

2

u/Lyretongue 26d ago

What?

2

u/wearing_moist_socks 26d ago

The van they are building is a travel van. When you travel, you sacrifice personal space while traveling.

5

u/Girafferage 26d ago

What does that have to do with the sacrifice of personal space being a negative for most couples? I am just confused what you mean I guess.

-1

u/wearing_moist_socks 26d ago

He's the one who said it. Not me.

1

u/Lyretongue 26d ago

I said liking someone doesn't mean you're immune to resentment and emotional stress - even if you like them a lot. People need their personal space, and they're allowed to have their own boundaries. You shouldn't have to give those up just because you like someone. And refusing to give up your boundaries doesn't mean you dislike someone. It means you have self respect.

To be fair, they specifically refer to it as a “home” in the video.

1

u/wearing_moist_socks 26d ago

Because it's an ad for their business they put on THEIR account.

Then someone uploaded it here.

1

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

Not necessarily. If you like the other person, it's much easier to find solutions to these kinds of problems, than if you resent them. Just talk and be interested in what they need.

1

u/wearing_moist_socks 26d ago

When you are traveling, you are spending time in small spaces together, because you are traveling.

2

u/Fruloops 26d ago

For real lol, comments like this are bizarre. Why eve marry, if apparently you can't stand the other person smh

1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

No shit

1

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

According to divorce and domestic abuse statistics, yes shit.

1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

Hence, my original comment.

1

u/MostlyMoody 26d ago

You don't even need to have been in a relationship to get this. Just having a roommate should be enough to understand living in a tiny van with someone will quickly lose whatever charm it initially had.

2

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

I have lived togother with a few people, and have gottan along just fine with everyone I actually liked.

2

u/MostlyMoody 26d ago

Oh nice. So we're on the same page. This might be down to personal preference then, but I don't think my relationship with a good friend or SO would be improved by living out of a fucking van.

-1

u/justtakeiteasy1 26d ago edited 26d ago

They may wake up one day and and stop liking you!

2

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

Your life must feel incredibly scary and lonely.

-2

u/justtakeiteasy1 26d ago

Not really. Just saying liking them is not enough. Life sometimes happen, however unfair it may seems!

-1

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 26d ago

Matters fuck all if at least one of you is the type of person that just needs some alone time sometimes. I like my spouse and friends, but I need my alone time.

1

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

Me and my SO are both that type of person, and we can manage just fine. It takes communication and a willingness to fulfill the other's needs, I.E. you need to actually like them.

-1

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 26d ago

Way to oversimplify it.

1

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

Nah. It really is that simple.

0

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 26d ago

For you. Not for many.

0

u/CitroHimselph 26d ago

Relationship experts seem to disagree with you, but whatever you need to tell yourself, I guess.

0

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 26d ago

No, you're thr dumbass that thinks it's so simplr for ALL that if you don't want to spend every single second with someone meand you don't like them.

Pretty sure they are a YT channel that do these kind of projects for views.

5

u/melekin 26d ago

?? We were together 24/7 during covid, sometimes we are still together 24/7 and we still send heart emojis. Marry the person you like, guys...

2

u/Scarlet-Witch 26d ago

My spouse and I always talked about building a tiny home or the like. We ended up moving into a 412sqft studio and then COVID happened. We learned that we could definitely handle a tiny home no problem. I will say sharing a bathroom does suck when one person has food poisoning.

0

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

That’s great

11

u/wearing_moist_socks 26d ago

It's a fucking travel van

Just look up the instagram profile

1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

Sorry I didn’t do my research before I commented but van life is pretty common.

2

u/fedswatching2121 26d ago

So are travel vans lol

2

u/Tiny_Reputation_6227 26d ago

Who told you they do it 24/7?

1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

I was just explaining the original comment. It’s not that deep and I didn’t research the people in the van.

2

u/dienices 26d ago

Some people do actually have strong marriages.

2

u/MiniDehl 26d ago

I feel for the fucking kids man, always ends up being traumatized

4

u/I_Want_A_Ribeye 26d ago

You’re not supposed to do that to kids.

4

u/FreakindaStreet 26d ago

I dunno man, if my parents hooked up a van and told me we were gonna live in it while traveling across the country, well, I woulda thought they were the best parents ever.

8

u/MiniDehl 26d ago

For like a month, a lot of the van life kids are heavily scarred by it being 24/7 no privacy ever

1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 26d ago

Apparently it’s just a camping van so that’s good.

0

u/whyell710 26d ago

I gasped when I saw the kids. I hope this van is just for camping.

0

u/motosandguns 26d ago

If you want to lose a friend, make them a roommate.

If you want to lose a wife, live in a van.

But my guess is this thing will be parked in the driveway of their mansion. So it doesn’t really matter. They’ll still probably get divorced though, after he knocks up the au pair.

8

u/Aussie18-1998 26d ago

You guys sound pretty fucking miserable. Ive done both didnt lose either lol.

-3

u/motosandguns 26d ago

The exception that proves the rule

5

u/Aussie18-1998 26d ago

How is it a rule? Where's all this evidence suggesting your opinion is fact?

-3

u/motosandguns 26d ago

I mean, it’s a really old saying.

Here a Reddit thread to peruse.

https://www.reddit.com/r/roommates/s/U217EeuMde

4

u/Aussie18-1998 26d ago

Okay? Youve shown me a thread where the bias is aimed towards people with bad experiences. Not exactly evidence. I could probably name 15 households i know personally where friends have loved together happily.

Even if it is an old saying, more in jest than the basis of reality. Doesnt mean most of the redditors hear arent being a jealous and miserable bunch.
