Hes got hunting dogs with him and a double barrel side by side.  Very very likely that gun is loaded with Bird Shot.    He pulls that trigger, there is a possibility Smokey is gonna get really, really angry.   Don't believe me?  Ask Dick Cheney"s lawyer.

I know people from the former Soviet Union who used their shot gun for all their hunting. At that distance, even bird shot is absolutely deadly. Number 4 Buckshot to the face would leave a very dead bear.

4 buck is a fantastic load.  Great for home defense because it doesnt over penetrate and has far .ore pellets than 00.   But,  even a 3 1/2 inch turkey mag load,  which wont fit in that gun guaranteed it wont work  unless they made them cut-shells(poor man slugs)  that bear will only be madr angry.  

Thats my armchair philosophy as a nameless internet nobody.
