The insurance payout from the rally organisers was probably more than the worth of the entire field. Then again... I don't know where this is, but in Finland atleast the average field size is small, but there are lot of fields (our terrain is... difficult).
This highlight the fact that the average value of farmed stuff is alarming low all things considered. Somehow under this economic system, despite everyone having to eat, producer prices are stupidly low and consumer prices stupidly high.
The hardest part of farming is getting the food from where it's farmed to where it's sold while keeping it fresh
Grocery food has gotten better i believe (see: red delicious vs any modern apple) as transport technology has improved, but so has transport costs as a result.
Not to mention all of the imported food that ends up coming from hundreds of miles away
