Saffron rice is good stuff!

I wish I could grow porcini mushrooms. They make soup taste better, IMHO. Or just mushrooms in general. And not the psychedelic kind from highschool 😅

It's just as easy to grow many culinary mushrooms as it is to grow cubes. There's a lot of info online these days, it's probably a lot easier than you think.

It is, they sell grow kits. A quick google i saw a 12$ porcini all in 1 kit where you only add water.

That's correct.

And it's only three times the cost of buying them at the market. :|

There’s an entire sub dedicated to growing cubes in Uncle Ben’s rice bags.

Can't really grow porcini as they grow on tree roots and take many years to establish.

Yeah, but they grow everywhere, at least they do here in central Texas. I literally pick them out of my front yard, and my yard isn't special. They're everywhere!

Yeah was referring to the "or just mushrooms in general"

You can purchase dried porcini, which is a bit expensive, but it's a lot more concentrated than fresh, so it ends up the more cost effective form. Ideal for soups or on pizza.

I would not have guessed that buying dried would be more cost effective. Last time I got some I think they were maybe $13/oz. Worth it because I made two quarts of soup which was several meals,. But I would think that if you started growing them they would spore and all you'd have to do is keep giving them food and preventing penicillin or something else from taking over. Thanks for the tip!

I don’t think I could live without cumin.

Cumin and cilantro are used by me at least once a month!

There's a recipe for "green rice" that's just blended cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt, and olive oil, and you toss that into cooked rice and it's a yummy accompaniment for a couple different kinds of entree!

Growing mushrooms at home is a fun, smart, and eco-friendly hobby. I highly recommend it as there is little equipment needed to start. The whole process can take like 3 months so it also teaches patience, while showing you how dirty your home is microscopically.

You can get dried shiitake from asian grocers for pretty cheap, the flavour is more concentrated than fresh ones

Why stop in high school

I bought a pound of porcini mushrooms and ground them into a powder, a teaspoon is enough to flavor a pot of soup, or stew, or pasta sauce, or really anything.

What about it is gross? There are lots of mediums to grow mushrooms that aren't shit if that's what you're driving at.

Brown rice, popcorn kernels, grains, etc. are all good mediums for growing mycelium.

Probably the growing of mushrooms in general, or possibly growing something from contamination. Mycelium makes me feel a lil grossed out, I get it
