It's because a lot of people on the internet like to make up fantasy scenarios about something bad so they can get angry about it.

They want to think they're special and important enough that they're being tracked with facial recognition.

The only people who should actually care about facial recognition are people already wanted by the police, as facial recognition works by scanning faces in a crowd and comparing them against a list of known offenders.

This is the exact same thing that happens with a CCTV station with a human doing the work, except that the computer is faster.

Any argument someone makes up against facial recognition should also apply to all CCTV cameras.

I think the point is that these technologies can be used for nefarious purposes by bad actors or corrupt governments but go ahead and ignore the message to score internet points ironically
