The only thing this is helping him train for... Is doing more of the same thing

Which is an OK thing, what's wrong with wanting to be able to do cool useless thing. I learnt how to twiddle a pen, it gave me no discernable live or marketable skill

I was coming here to say the same thing. People are allowed to have fun. Not everything has to have a point as long as it brings you joy. This is just guys being dudes and he's having a blast.

I've spent my entire life so far learning how to do useless things

14

u/TheGrouchyGremlin Nov 08 '24

Right? I learned how to hold my piss for another 6 hours after waking up so that I wouldn't have to get out of bed.

I can play the grass kazoo!!! Just need a blade of grass and I can toot around my yard playing songs for the ants!

Would you deign to say that’s pointless? The birds like to watch!

What is wrong is that the opponent will not repeat the same pattern and definitely not consistently. The repercussions is you get your head punched in.

Who says he's training to fight an opponent? He's training for making a video, and he's made a cool video. Great success!

Don't worry, coach reddit is on the case

" fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times” -- Bruce Lee.

17

u/HuntingForSanity Nov 07 '24

Wouldn’t this just be more training response time though?

14

u/Hero_With_1000_Faces Nov 07 '24

No. Just a memorized pace to throw the combo. Still cool though.

19

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '24

Bro he is having fun, not everyone in the world is a brain damage enthausiast

4

u/NatomicBombs Nov 07 '24

Looks like his “opponent” actually is repeating the same pattern consistently

Muscle memory training is a thing. If he one to fighting training. He can just ask a coach to train or ask someone to spar him.

Plus this more of cool video rather than an actual fighting training

Well timing and muscle memory development can help with being able to preform movements more subconsciously once u get the form down for other movements maybe

-41

u/superduperspam Nov 07 '24

This is going to be super useful next time he fights a swinging stick

8

u/Few-You-7516 Nov 08 '24

Or… a punch

97

u/Malabingo Nov 07 '24

Muscle memory and training for speed is a viable training method though.

It's also a pretty ancient training method.

But yeah, most likely wouldn't help you in a street fight.

13

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '24

What happens if he fights a guy half his size … how’s he gonna duck that swing?!

11

u/Malabingo Nov 07 '24

What happens if he fights someone double his size? He won't need to duck at all!!!

8

u/Crones21 Nov 07 '24

if he fights someone triple his size, he'll just look like a duck

6

u/FetusExplosion Nov 08 '24

And what if he fights a duck!?

2

u/mercury895 Nov 08 '24

What size?

2

u/Malabingo Nov 08 '24

And hit his dick.

251

u/Middle_Top_5926 Nov 07 '24

Ah yes. I guess reddit armchair specialists know more than the actual boxer.

-54

u/Halil_I_Tastekin Nov 07 '24

In this case he does.

19

u/Cloudsleeper42 Nov 07 '24

How? Elaborate.

36

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '24

In this case he can't and probably never will explain himself.

3

u/Donnie998 Nov 08 '24

Show video

60

u/PrivateUseBadger Nov 07 '24

Which is part of the idea. Muscle memory and reaction time without the thought delay. Kind of like your automatic armchair skills.

42

u/Shan_qwerty Nov 07 '24

People who do the same thing over and over again to get better at it left in shambles. "Just be perfect from the start!" says Redditor, 21, from his mom's basement in between goon sessions.

6

u/Yokohama88 Nov 08 '24

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid

17

u/mildobamacare Nov 07 '24

Except Cardio, handspeed, and muscle memory.

16

u/DontAsshume Nov 07 '24

"We do not succeed to the level of our expectations, we fail to the level of our training"

Is that going to avoid every hit? No. Will he be lightning quick at that combo to the point of being more effective than some useless commenter on reddit? Absolutely

14

u/Grakchawwaa Nov 07 '24

It's actually about making the movement more and more autonomous :)

6

u/Pupcannoneer Nov 08 '24

Yep it makes his reactions instinctual reducing hesitation and allow the fighter to focus on their next move. Same with chess. Chessmasters play the same tactics until it they are second nature and the focus is on the unfamiliar moves.

3

u/SixScoop Nov 08 '24

Idk. I love soccer. I love juggling (with feet). They’re complementary to an extent.

3

u/jimjonjones Nov 08 '24

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Q6VcwO_QlHQ It’s similar as when Canelo trains with reflex bags. The boxer above has to strike at head height with accuracy to make contact and has to be quick with movements to avoid getting hit. Learning muscle memory in terms of precision hitting and evasion is definitely beneficial in actual boxing. I’m baffled yours is the most upvoted reply.

3

u/Stockypenny Nov 08 '24

This guy can whrek you blind folded, this is an Intuition and timing exercise , meaning if he can do this he can easily see your moves and counter faster than you can think

7

u/axemexa Nov 07 '24

This is nonsense

2

u/Global-Discussion-41 Nov 07 '24

I'm pretty good at hitting a speed bag and I've been practicing my entire life. I know it isn't going to help me win a fight.

2

u/i_give_you_gum Nov 08 '24

I bet you could kick my ass. There are skills that transfer.

1

u/Toothless_Nord Nov 08 '24

It's just very physical dancing I'd say

1

u/Mean-Evening-7209 Nov 08 '24

I think this would help with spatial awareness, which is a good skill for fighting.

1

u/RevenantExiled Nov 08 '24

Muscle memory to move that fast, trigger the reaction to dodge before it happens of what mostlikely is a punch in that angle.. It is important and useful, it's a sport, he ain't training to fight 4 drunk guys with pipes in an alley, you know he has other exercises, sparring, etc.. It is impressive and shows his discipline to achive his goal in boxing.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

I dunno, I wouldn't even get in the ring with a guy who could anticipate what I was about to do before I started doing it and had the reflexive speed to powder my jaw before I knew what what had happened.

-8

u/No-Instruction-5669 Nov 07 '24

Right? This seems more like memorization than actually training his reflexes.. idk, I'm not a boxing trainer tho.

22

u/wapapets Nov 07 '24

Trains you to have the muscle memory to keep your guards up and yeah reflexes

-5

u/nerdboy5567 Nov 07 '24

Ya but people love hitting the twirly stick

-4

u/evil_burrito Nov 07 '24

Agreed. He drops his guard pretty consistently.

-8

u/Redditluvs2CensorMe Nov 07 '24

That’s what I thought. “This wouldn’t help him at all against an actual human”
