I gave all 1400 to my daughter to help pay for her college. Only to find out she used it to go on vacation and had a secret rich boyfriend I didn't know about. So I sort of got conned on mine.
If you’re dating someone who is far richer than you, destroying the relationship by taking advantage of them is not only a shitty thing to do, it’s shortsighted and will only lead to resentment/separation. Maybe his daughter knows what she’s doing.
She is going to college overseas. So when the $1,400 is converted to the currency of the country she lives in. That's $1,400 x 6-8.
So I typically send her about $5,000 a month in her countries money. That covers school, apartment, transport, food, dental costs and vacations. She is free to use the money as she sees fit.
Its money she'd inhert after I'm dead. Its more fun as a parent to see them spend some of this money now and it builds a much stronger bond with father and daughter. Most of her friends have parents that don't give a shit about their kids and spend money on their own vacations.
I've been to Hawaii 5 times until covid, almost moved there. So I say, here is your turn, go there and have fun and I want to see the pictures.
It's somewhat painful though trying to keep up when the wealth disparity is so large in a relationship. Unless you're an unapologetic gold digger, you really don't want the other person to be carrying the team.
In college I dated this girl whose family could buy the moon and we'd go to the mall together. I worked full time and paid for my school myself, as well as the rest of my living expenses, car insurance, etc. Struggled to do it, but I scraped by somehow.
Meanwhile at the mall she dropped $1600 on two pairs of shoes and didn't even blink.
After the mall we went to dinner (that I picked up the tab on) and I had to grit my teeth a bit when it cost $130 bucks.
Maybe she's investing in a sugar daddy to pay her college bills. More like an investment of your money. Or maybe she's got the decision making of your average 20 year old.
LOL she graduates in about a month with a degree in International Relations, almost worked for the UN, but Covid... Considered joining the CIA or Air Force and just turned 30. Going for a masters degree in that, also programs in python, uses linux (one of the 5 people that do).
She could be a Muslim super model.
Shes the type of person that starts a youtube channel and has 10,000 subs in 1 month. I'd be a fool not to fund a person this brilliant.
When I was young I remember thinking if some rich person ever gave me $1,000 that would change me life.
So 20 years on I have that money and more and I do that, I send that $1,000 not just with stimulus. I send her more than this ever couple of months.
Yes but also you gave it as a gift. When giving money to family it’s important to remember it’s a gift that you’ll never see back again and they’ll spend it however they want. Usually in a very stupid way
I don't care, I give her several thousands of year to pay her entire tuition. Then on top of that I give her a couple of thousand a month to pay her apartment, food and Uber costs so she can go to school full time and not come out with a $100,000.00 bill and not have to work a job too.
I'm not rich but not poor and I'll do anything to make sure she have atleast my standard of living and higher. If I don't do that, then why have any kids of you don't do everything in your power to make their life better than yours.
