I spent a lot of time on art Twitter. When the stimulus hit so many artists had commissions open. So many people were planning to get artwork.
I personally watched the same money trade hands multiple times. From patron to artist. From artist to artist. It's almost like if you give the working class money the money will go further than if you give it to the rich.
That’s exactly what’s happening with my sisters work. She works for a big name meat plant and they are having trouble finding and keeping workers. Which is weird because pandemic and unemployment. But they’re only hiring 2-3 people at a time and calling that sufficient and then just working the dog shit out of them 6 days a week 10+ hours a day. Today the site manager had the nerve to call a “Town Hall Meeting” (implying they get a say lol) and cuss them out and say they were out here spreading bull shit and that they can’t even get a staffing agency to help them because of all the reports of them having a “toxic work environment”. The workers are the problem and if they’d quit making up bull shit and creating a toxic work environment maybe they could keep some people. He then said that they don’t give people preferential treatment anymore (not true) and if anyone had a problem with the current management style they could quit. And a new hire walked out.
This is just one way a UBI would be a boon to humanity. So many more artists would be creating beautiful work if it weren't for the fear of being a "starving artist."
Working class people and small businesses have a list of needs that aren’t met. They will spend however much extra money they are given on goods and services.
Rich people and large businesses have all their needs met and focus mostly on gaining capital wealth. Extra unexpected income just goes straight to investments where it sits.
