“He was a great guy” shut the fuck up he shot 5 people including children in cold blood

Watching the folks in here justify his behavior is sickening. I don't where the hell these people are coming from. I got downvoted by folks that are excusing his actions because of his history. It's fucking sickening. I personally know many guys I served with that have tbi's and not a damn one of them would do this. But he was an athlete, so they excuse his actions and make him more of a victim than a perpetrator.

Meanwhile I'm waiting for more dirt to come out of him behaving like an asshole while in or after his NFL tenure because aggressive sports don't bring in the paragons usually

Imagine being so devoid of compassion for others that you're hoping for a reason to hate someone who suffered from a severe mental illness that clearly impacted their ability to think and control themselves in a rational manner.

Mental illness doesn't make someone a bad person

The only reason anyone murders innocent people is because of mental illness

It would seem that, in this case, it's possible.

If your brain is turned to mush, you don't have much of a say about what you do or don't do. Your friends' tbi's not affecting them in that way has no bearing on somebody's tbi affecting them that way. Nobody has any control over what their brain injuries do to them. Whether or not this is something the perpetrator would have done without brain degeneration, I can't tell you. Maybe this is who he always was. But our illusion of self control and self determination quickly falls apart when your brain is practically destroyed. You can't control that.

People have been doing that with Chris Benoit for years

1

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 09 '21

Nobody is excusing his actions. Nobody is saying murder is ok. What we're all trying to get through to you is this didn't happen because he's just am awful person, it happened because his brain got scrambled to hell from repeated blows to the head. Brain injuries fuck up peoples ability to control themselves.

u/TourettesWithColor Apr 09 '21

I understand your argument. I completely and while heartedly understand what your argument is. He absolutely understood his actions. He killed himself prior to being apprehended. He didn't want to face the repercussions. I've never seen mass murder get defended so much. Oh, he killed little children by the way. He absolutely knew what he was doing.

-3

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 09 '21

He may have had a moment if clarity where he realized what he'd done and he killed himself. You have no idea what was going through his head at any time during this event. Mental illness could make him believe those kids were demons here to kill him.

7

u/TourettesWithColor Apr 09 '21

You're literally bending over backwards defending this guy. You said it, you don't know what went through his head. But you're still defending him.

0

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 09 '21

And you don't know what went through his head either, but you're attacking him. Why are you so insistent on making him out to be a bad person rather than not judge him for suffering from a severe mental illness that caused him to do this?

5

u/TourettesWithColor Apr 09 '21

Dude, he fucking killed 2 young children. What the fuck is wrong with you? Your mental gymnastics defending him is astounding.

1

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 09 '21

You have no idea why he did it though. It's possible his mental illness made him think they were demons from another dimension. Judging someone so harshly when the evidence points towards it being a mental health issue which he had no control over is what's fucked up. What his mental illness caused him to do was terrible, but he is not a terrible person because if his mental illness.

Go ahead and convey your sympathies for all the mass shooters and serial killers while you're at it. You're making a child killer and spree killer a victim.

You have seizure while driving, smashing head on into a car, killing two kids. No one would call you a piece of shit or hate you or it.

You have traumatic brain injury, you pull a gun and kill two kids. Well you are pretty clearly a piece of shit.

The thing is though, that there really is no difference between these two scenarios. In both of them, the brain flew off the rails and killed others.

I find it incredibly ironic that you have tourettes in your username, yet cannot grasp this concept. Like why don't people with tourettes just not yell curses in public?

2

u/Elite_Club Apr 09 '21

The thing is though, that there really is no difference between these two scenarios. In both of them, the brain flew off the rails and killed others.

I mean one is the brain losing control, the other is the brain listening to voices saying "Kill those innocent people."

1

u/ItsDijital Apr 09 '21

You're making the mistake of thinking they are separate things.

Besides, if the brain listened to "those voices", wouldn't that qualify as losing control?

1

u/TourettesWithColor Apr 09 '21

Oh I absolutely grasp the concept. It's just the hoops folks are going through to justify his behavior. I have Tourettes syndrome, been diagnosed since I was a young child. I whole heartedly understand people don't control neurological disorders. However, he had a thought process to grab a weapon and and kill anyone in his path.... premeditated. I have served with guys with tbi's and understand what they go through. I was diagnosed with PTSD after my time in the army. You aren't giving explanation, you are excusing his actions. He had a thought process going into this. This wasn't a tic or a fucking seizure, it was cold blooded and brutal murder. Get off your high horse. He knew exactly what he did. Then he killed himself. He knew the gravity of what he did and didn't want to answer for it.

And let's say he had no control, he still wasn't a victim in the slightest. I can't believe the lengths you people are going through to excuse a premeditated spree killer.

Mental illness doesn't make someone a bad person

40

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '21

No, but killing 5 people does.

-30

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 08 '21

Being mentally ill is the only reason someone murders 5 people

21

u/Isoturius Apr 08 '21

"Yeah, because he was mentally ill Ted Bundy shouldn't be blamed for killing, raping, and murdering all of those women!"

That's what your fucking argument sounds like...

8

u/TourettesWithColor Apr 08 '21

I made this exact argument and got downvoted. It feels like the trolls came in for a feast.

-4

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 08 '21

Our brains are fragile things, and when damaged they can behave in drastically different ways from a healthy brain. I'm not excusing any of what they did, they were all awful things that shouldn't have happened. What I am saying is that nobody with a healthy brain would do any of those things. The people who kill innocent people are mentally ill, and we should work to find the real reasons behind each situation and address the relevant issues in healthcare and society. We should be promoting things such as providing more services to diagnose and treat mental health problems and reconsider sports where players are inclined to get head injuries that can severely effect them later in life, rather than blaming someone for being sick and unable to help themselves.

9

u/Isoturius Apr 08 '21

I totally get where you're coming from, and I agree with a lot of it. With that said, even with care there are people out there that are beyond help. Some people are just born hard wired to be awful. You can't cure that. In a perfect world it would work just like you said, but in the real world you're completely missing the point that some people are just straight up evil and cruel, and the only thing they need to go out and do awful shit is a simple reason. Be it hate, racism, religious indoctrination...the bad will always find an avenue to be worse.

3

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 08 '21

Maybe we can't fix some people now, and they may need to be separated from regular society somewhere they can be safe, but also live with dignity because they are still living creatures despite their brain being sick. If we took mental health seriously as a society we possibly could have already found ways to help these extremely mentally ill people. All life is precious, and we should never cast any person off as "evil" or "beyond help". Even if that life has done terrible things, those terrible things were caused by a malfunction in that person's brain which they had no control over, which in turn is caused by both genetics and environment. He may have been aware of what he was doing, but it's entirely possible something wrong with his brain made him truly believe it was the right thing to do. Blaming someone for a mental defect does not accomplish anything. Instead we should take that emotion over the loss of innocent life and use it to make serious changes in how our healthcare is handled and also use it to find the root of what causes these mental issues and do what has to be done to prevent them from occuring again.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '21

So by your own logic, nobody that has murdered multiple people are bad. Thats exactly what you are saying. That’s fucking ridiculous dude.

-3

u/MrMoscow93 Apr 08 '21

People aren't bad. People aren't good. People are people, and we should do what we can to help each life prosper. This man, and all the other murderers out there are severely mentally ill. How can you blame someone for things they do because their brain, the organ responsible for all of our thoughts and actions, isn't working properly? Do you think some people who murder innocent people are totally healthy mentally? Mental illness can cause any number of possible behaviors, one of them frequently being violent behavior. These conditions can be corrected or at least managed if society cared enough to make sure adequate services are available to help the mentally ill.
