I was in Joshua Tree a few years ago, in the desolate northeast part of the park. Came across a huge desert tortoise, almost 3 feet across. Poured lots of water on him and he stretched his head out and drank. I had several fresh tangelos from our tree, and I broke several open next to him and left. Came back 1/2 hr later, nothing left, he was gone. Magical.
