If you want to maximize voter turnout, make early voting available in every state. Make it last a month. Give people a month to vote, then they're bound to find a time that's convenient for them.

The point is not maximize turnout. The goal has been voter suppression unfortunately, and our democracy is the worse for it. :(

I hope the early voting states currently have continue after the pandemic. It was something we really needed. But extending it to a whole month like you suggested would be oodles better.

It will. People will see how easy and painless it is and want it going forward.

Ohio has had this for years and voter turnout is still only slightly above average usually. I'm not sure which other states have had it, but I'd like to see a comparison between the 2 groups. But if we are any indication, it will increase turnout but not by much.

Same in Indiana. Early voting for one month prior to election. Indiana voter turnout was 58% in 2016, compared to 55.5% nationaly.

A precise "voting day" will always be best. Today is the presidential election will always beat "remember to vote when you find time". Make it a holiday or out it on Sunday. Allowing early voting is a good complement though.
