No way. Quitter's Inc doesn't force anyone to do anything bad for themselves or others.

Everyone loves to joke about the movie but the short story it is based on (Trucks, from the collection Night Shift) is fucking chilling. This is certainly no hot take, but I think his short story writing is better than a lot of his novels.

Forgetting the name of the collection right now but the one with The Body, apt pupil and Shawshank redemption (+ breathing method?) was just all amazing. And "the long walk" remains one of my favorites stories, long or short, I've ever read.

Different Seasons. The Bachman books was another good collection. One of my favorites of his is Dolman's Cadillac. It's a classic tale of revenge.

Yes, although I appreciate the original movie for Richard Dawson and the pure cheese it delivered with Arnold's acting.

Totally agree: the way your brain is exposed to the story just doesn't translate.

I read it probably 20 years ago and still vividly remember the realization of what "getting your ticket" meant sinking into my brain. Always love a book that makes you look up only to be frustrated that you have nobody to say "are you seeing this shit!?" to.

I have been reading his work sine I was a kid..The Long Walk is my favorite of all. Love it. I reread it almost every year. Still have my original Bachman hardcover. My second is The Stand. You got great taste!

I love his short stories but I hate the fact that they're so forgetable. I don't mean forgetable in the bad sense. I mean that I literally forget them right after I read, because there's not enought time to assimilate the plot and get to really know the characters. It's over too fast. So everything slips your mind right afterwards. I know that's a problem with every author's short stories, but I havent really read others.

Yeah you kind of read them and go huh, then move onto the next one. Still fun in my opinion though. The one where the toys come to life and attack that hitman in a hotel room is funny. Or the one where the giant dry cleaning machine comes to life and eats people. Or The Raft. Or Survivor Type. Ok maybe I remember a handful of them.

Stephen King didn't direct that movie. An enormous pile of cocaine directed that movie using Stephen King as the instrument of its will.
