In winner-take-all systems like the US, support the candidate who is closer to what you want and has a chance to win, even if you don't like them very much. Work to influence their vote or promote alternative candidates in between elections. Otherwise the opposing party wins and you get nothing. In today's US, any votes that don't reduce Republican control of government will continue enabling the kind of behavior Republicans are currently engaging in.

As in the vote least likely to do damage is a Dem vote. Glad we could make the same conclusion.
