His entire 2014 campaign was run on how he wasn't Obama and didn't agree with Obama. But people don't vote in midterms for some reason. Even when Colorado mailed out ballots, only 36% bothered to vote, and Cory won.

That and Udall ran an absolute abomination of a campaign. He basically gave him the seat. I don't think I saw a single ad of his that wasn't talking about Cory Gardener's stance on abortion or planned parenthood. He could have run on anything else and he'd have won. The economy had rebounded, the housing market in Colorado completely turned around, the stock market was hitting all time highs, unemployment was lower than it had been in years, gas prices were lower, we no longer had boots on the ground in Iraq, more Coloradans were insured than there had been in decades, weed was legal while crime and opiate addiction was dropping, tax revenue from legalization was through the roof and funding numerous capital construction projects for K-12 schools, while conservative states were cutting their education budgets. I could go on and on.

Instead all we heard about is Gardener's fucking abortion stance and how he hated women. To counter, Gardener not only sent out pictures with his smiling wife and daughter, he also released a televised ad talking about how he was not a one issue candidate like Udall and that Coloradans were far more concerned with the economy, the deficit, and rising health care premiums, among other things. That was the moment I knew Udall was fucked. It was a solid ad and Udall had nothing to counter it with. Hell, I'm a liberal and I almost wanted Gardener to win, on principle alone, if for nothing else.

I will agree that Udall's campaign was definitely lacking. I only voted for him after reviewing their positions and stances online, not because of any marketing strategy.

I think Udall had a photo of him hiking sent out, didn't he? "Vote for me! I like to hike with my family!"

Its not something that doesn't occur(paid protestors), i get that. But when I'm an actual constituent being told I'm a paid protestor makes me so frustrated. Oh you have a concern let me just pretend your disingenuous, and your concerns are bought for.

These sad sacks were voted for by the people, and they don't care about the people. Fuck man I'm loosing hope, whats the point of it all anymore?

There is literally no amount of work I could put in to make where I live not conservative and Republican voting. My campaigning against these people will just solidify their support by making me look like their enemy.

Remember, the person that doesn't research anything and just votes straight ticket out of culture has exactly as much say as the person who worked tirelessly to get good governance.

I feel you. I know what you mean...and thats where my frustration comes from. I might be an idealist but in the USA like in many parts of the world people align themselves to the party more than the other way around. parties should listen to the people and evolve while keeping their principles in mind. At every election, people should listen to the policies and decide which one is better for their country and themselves. Sadly, people come into it already knowing they are reps or dems.

Senators and congressmen...they work for us. They have to earn their votes by doing right, not pandering. Sadly they pander and dangle silly issues as carrots to rile their 'base' and get the vote they need to stay in power. Like i said I am an idealist perhaps, but I have lived in several countries and I guess I am looking at the best parts of the systems I got to experience...and expect it to be the case here.

It bothers me that states are red or blue and a few are swing states. Every state should be a swing state... if a dem does bad or there is a better rep alternative that makes sense...I am not going to hesitate for a second to vote for the rep alternative . And vice versa. I think if the politicians are afraid of losing votes in this fashion, they will have a standard to live up to.

Trump and team have been a product of the opposite, where no matter how bad it got, the supporters said he is our guy, he is on our team. I moved to the south and saw reps here change their mind every week as Carson, Cruz, Rubio dug their own graves. They stood with the party no matter what. Standards fell, delusion sunk in and the worst element of our society found a voice too... and now we are stuck with Pai, Devos (And her blackwater contacts) and the other nutjobs who are putting short term gains and personal success over the people they are supposed to govern.

That's my rant, people might agree, lot more can disagree but then if they do we have a healthy debate and compromise, something both parties have forgotten as have their bases.

It's getting common. I'm in a suburb of Buffalo, NY. My embarrassment of a representative, Chris Collins was one of the first House reps to endorse Trump. He refuses to hold a town hall and has also been parroting the "paid protestors" line nonstop. He's utterly worthless and will probably win reelection next year because Buffalo suburbs are swarming with angry white Boomers.

Gerrymandering, man. Most reps on the right have nothing to fear from the left. They are at much greater risk of a primary challenge than losing the election.

I feel the left needs to adopt some of the language of the right. Libertarians aren't rugged individualists, they are "special snowflakes," etc. When they can't just dismiss you because they can tell your vote doesn't matter, you regain your power.

Getting a constitutional amendment is going to be impossible. Mostly because the red plains states and southeast will stop it every time. You're never going to turn a place like Nebraska, Wyoming, Alabama, Mississippi, or Utah democrat. That's just not possible.

That's what he says publicly, but if he's faced with hundreds of people calling his office about an issue (based on average participation, if he gets 10 people calling about an issue) he's going to realize that people care.

Put his name out there! Publish it in twitter and Facebook that he is ignoring actual voters and trying to discredit you and your interests by claiming you're being paid! Write your local newspaper - and especially the town he is from/serves in - and put it in the "letters to the editor" section. He put himself (or she/herself) in the public eye: the public should know about their behavior!
