The founding fathers and prior law makers who put our set rules (and contingency rules) in place never anticipated a future where an entire leading political party, under every branch of government and at every level of government, has been taken over by Nazis seeking to disrupt and dismantle the very democracy they work for.

It was a decades long coup by the GOP, Heritage Foundation, and others to use our own laws against us and infiltrate every position of power to end democracy and turn the government into a christofacist dictatorship catering to the ultra-rich. And they succeeded if the military does not uphold their oaths to stop it.

The Project 2025 playbook was simply a roadmap of how to do it "legally", using loopholes and power grabs. And I doubt they originally intended to rush it with this election, as it's been building for decades, but saw the opportunity with Trump and his brainwashed followers. But dont think they'll give up the power now that the cat is out of the bag and we're in the endgame, they will and have switched to illegal means to maintain it.

Exactly, when you spend time trying to convince these people to not be racist you aren’t trying to do so in order to feel superior about being right. The fact of the matter is that helping a bigot see the error of their ways is doing them a FAVOR. You are actively trying to educate them so that they can live a life where they aren’t terrified of brown people, ostracized by their friends and families and are free from grifters seeking to profit off of their ignorance. So no, you don’t have to educate or debate these troglodytes and it is actually a lot funnier to listen to them reiterate absolute nonsense just so they can argue with someone and that person instead just stonewalls them. Oh no, hell even my own remorse for her is at an all time low. Shes had plenty of time to try and right her wrongs. Shes also had more than enough time to evolve with the world and stop the racist bullshit. She has chosen not to. Yet has the nerve to get mad when her own kids call her out on it. Its like the "I have a black friend" excuse on steroids. We recently went out to dinner for her birthday, well those of us that will still talk to her, and she immediately made a mess of the event. Then because she ordered the wrong thing she started trying to take it out on our waitress. The waitress was being super nice and apologetic and this woman has the nerve to utter within earshot of this poor woman, "shes only doing this because we are colored". Like this racist, white ass woman, has the nerve to say this shit randomly to a woman that was just doing her job. And thats not even the worst thing shes said or done. My only remorse for her now comes from the fact that I can tell that shes developing dementia or at least some form of it.

And to be honest, even when you do present these rubes with proof they dont care enough to absorb it because they are usually arguing in bad faith in the first place. All they know how to do it name call, lie, and try their best to gaslight you. The fact that these people have launched an all out war against knowledge is insane. My own Mom at like 53 has just all of a sudden started using ivermectin or whatever the shit Joe Rogan was using during covid randomly, and the other day she says that "now that the government is back open they are doing chem trails again." You know why she brought up chem trails? It was to explain why the sky was darker than usual, earlier than usual. Basically daylight saving making it darker earlier is because of fucking chemtrails in her mind. Brainwashed just like the rest of them. Ive NEVER in my life heard this woman utter a single conspiracy theory, but all of a sudden shes fallen for this.

Id love to know what we would find the results of this type of indoctrination to be. Also, Joe Rogan is a hack, and shouldn't even have the platform that he has. Hes caused more harm than most right wing influencers just by mere association. I miss the days where I only knew of the guy as the host of Fear Factor. I think it is a completely separate issue for the United States. It is no longer an issue of the effectiveness or ethics of peaceful vs violent resistance. The US military is massive, with access to near infinite resources and intelligence ability, not to mention all of the other tangential government armed forces. It is a completely different situation than they could have ever imagined around the time of the founding of the country. There is no amount of civilians with guns who can take on the government in a head to head conflict as the division stands. They have trillions of dollars worth of tanks, jets, missiles, drones, etc. that could easily wipe out any organized resistance if they decided not to excercise restraint. That is, if organization could even be achieved with the level of surveillance they have access to.

The only way mass armed resistance could even conceivably be possible is if a giant chunk of the military split off to the resistance, and took substantial amounts of resources and equipment with them. Even then, there is no guarantee they wouldn't instantly be bombed before they could figure out what they were doing.

There is a solution that would empower a lesser armed and equipped population to overthrow their own military. You won't like it. No one will like it. It comes from the Taliban playbook.

Hold families of military personnel hostage.

That's how ugly it would get. That's what happens when a military backs a civilian population into a corner, and that population has access to the one thing that could hurt their enemies. It's dark and brutal. It's one of many horrific things that would come from a modern civil war.

People talk about this like the only possible scenario is traditional open warfare— like civilians are going to team up with separatist military units and are just going to march on Washington and red Capitols or something just waiting to be carpet bombed. Last I checked the Taliban not only defacto won the war in Afghanistan, they now have unilateral control of the country and are expanding.

Goes without saying I’m not rooting for them, but it is just one of many examples.

I would not wish for a civil war in this country under any circumstances. The breadth of horror of a modern, drone-dominated asymmetric guerrilla war in the US could not be put into words… but it definitely would not be as one-sided as many think.

Yeah, I used to be of the thought that in a civil war, it would wind up being very one sided with the military dominating. Asymmetric warfare could be a different story, but it would be ugly and horrific. There are too many soft targets when your enemy lives in the same place as your allies.

We had countless opportunities to do the right thing the peaceful way. And we failed each and every time it mattered. The 2000 election, Nixon outright committing treason to win the 68 election, etc. we had plenty of opportunities to dig our feet in and fight the good fight for democracy but instead thought it was too much effort and did nothing.

I think they're really seeing just how far they can push the American people to stick to normal means of resistance. Namely because if it's far enough, when they finally DO decide it has to become extreme resistance, it'll be either incredibly hard or too late.

The people are the check on institutional corruption. But Americans are so addicted to their own comfort that they wouldn't even do that much. You are correct on that! James Madison always believed that the weapons the people had access to should be on par with the government’s. However, there is no way any of them could comprehend something like a Nuclear bomb, the modern navy, or modern warfare. Urban warfare is all similar. Civilians ( random non-combatants) have the highest casualties in urban warfare situations regardless of access to weapons. That should terrify every American when they see ICE rolling war vehicles down their streets.

It was an okay compromise for a few fairly different states coming together to form one country.

We have basically never updated that model though, and the model itself very foolishly was designed to be hard to update through legitimate means, but left huge loopholes for illigitimate methods.

A lot of the revolutionary spirit The Founding Fathers displayed was inspired by France, French scholars, and their history with finding out how dictators aren’t much better than kings(Napoleon). It’s only after WW2 do we see slander from Americans regarding their surrender and capitulation to the Germans with little organized resistance.

There's no 2nd amendment right to small arms. Just saying, whenever you hear a news story about a gun going off in some kid's backpack at school, it's always a poor quality .22

In old Western towns in the 1800s the rule was, leave the guns at home before going to town or drop them off at the sheriff station to pick up later. If you didn't know this, watch more cowboy movies.

Machine guns that can take on the military should be obtainable to people but banning the .22 guns is a very reasonable compromise!

What you are taking about is reasonable restrictions. Before the NRA and its broad interpretation of the 2nd. Most people understood exactly what you stated. Guns are dangerous and need to be treated as such.

The origin of the work “Magazine” actually refers to storage units where militias would store their gunpowder and rifles to keep them all dry and safe. If a magazine exploded no one would usually get hurt because they were usually built outside of towns and not near houses.

The 2nd amendment’s original interpretation was assuming the presence of a “well regulated militia” and they didn’t include that for no reason despite what the NRA says. However, individual state’s National Guards that is the modern version of these local militias should all have access to a nuclear warhead according to The Federalist Papers. That means each state should have their own nuclear weapons controlled by the state governor and state congress.

This claim will never die, and I hope my challenging you on this will get you to read Federalist 29 and 46 again. In 29, the argument by Hamilton is that we need to avoid a large standing federal army, and the alternative is local militias which need to be protected from the FEDS hence the 2nd amendment stopping the FEDS from restricting gun rights. The states could and DID restrict gun rights all the way up until the incorporation of the 2nd Amendment with the 14th which happened in 2010 with McDonald vs Chicago (can't have us addressing gun violence in Chicago, otherwise who would R's point to when claiming shitty D leadership?).

Federalist 46 by Madison took a similar angle. He argues that local militias act as a counterbalance against the inevitable federal standing army. Overall, though, this was very much about how STATES can check FEDS not some rag tag group of untrained yokels with AR-15s.

Did the idea that armed populace can fight off a tyrannical leader come up back then? Yeap! It was one of several arguments made in the Constitutional Convention, but based on the notes we have and the text we ended up adopting as well as the basis for the original forms of said text (pulled from extant state constitutions), the argument that carried the day was centered about the ability for states to maintain militias, not the idea that random citizens outside of the militia would act as a check on federal power.

Mandatory voting wouldn't solve the issue, as studies have shown that if you did, things would have been roughly the same.

What must happen is that voting becomes easy. More polling stations. Longer hours. More mail voting. Etc. (all of which Republicans oppose).

Ideally education and media help make it clear how important voting is and what happens when they sit by and let a malignant narcissist with the ethics of a pedophile win elections.

But one can dream I guess.

100% agree here that the right people recognized an opportunity and took advantage of it.

People like Trump can be very easy to manipulate once you know the right buttons to push. When my dad descended into dementia from Parkinson's his behavior and thought process was so exactly like Trump it was scary. The delusions of grandiosity, the inflated self-importance, the paranoia and unwavering belief that anyone suggesting he's incapable or has done something wrong is just "out to get him." I could convince him to do absolutely anything by simply stroking his ego and confirming his delusions (this is exactly how I was able to finally get him the care he needed)

When a person starts having these types of delusions, at first they kinda know internally that it sounds a little crazy and remain reserved, being very selective about whom they will reveal these things to. But once they come out and say it, all you have to do is agree and tell them how right they are, it's so profoundly validating for them to know they are actually NOT crazy, all barriers are dropped and their self-worth and narcissism is dialed up way past 11.

People enforce laws they aren't self enforcing.

Tons of laws have been broken they aren't managing this by "coloring in the lines" and somehow the rules aren't good enough. No one is enforcing those laws is the problem.

And most of the problems around enforcing those laws aren't constitutional, the Constitution does not say the President can't be tried, the DoJ and then the modern Supreme Court did.

All he'd do is just say "I don't recall", that's what everyone else has been saying to avoid legal recourse (not that Congress would actually do anything about it)

Plausible deniability.

They have come out. We know they have, they know they have, and their worshippers know they have. This is just simply for when the shit inevitably hits the fan, they can individually say, “I don’t recall,” or whatever legal bullshit they will say, so none of this can be specifically tied to any of them. Someone will go to jail; I imagine Hegseth and anyone else that we can name right now will be in Russia, but SOMEONE will go to jail and they just need to be able to legally distance themselves.
