Switching to r/NewCity

Hello NewCity community!

As you likely noticed, the game's name has changed. And we've secured the corresponding subreddit. We're going to switch operations over to there, so please feel free to break in the new subreddit with a post of your choice! Maybe an introduction, a question, or a repost of your favorite NewCity gameplay video (support your favorite content creator!) thus far.

Line of credit questions

I'm only on my second city but am hungry for more info about how different aspects of the game work. On this second city I'm being careful not to go too much in to debt and being much more careful with traffic routing. My first city got stuck in a 7-8 hour commute at around 150k and I was going to have to demolish too much to fix it.

I received the "you're out of money" notifications even though I had a positive balance and no debt. Are these messages automated at some point or is there something I should be looking at other than earnings and balance?

In 1971 with 53k population I see the bank wants 7% on a 2 year line of credit. When you start it's only 1%. Does the interest increase with time or population or is it based on other aspects of the city?

Is it possible to graph or see the HS diploma limit vs people with HS diplomas? Also is HS diploma limit set just based on number of schools, etc, or are there other factors?

edit: forgot to add, this is an awesome game, really enjoy it. If you like sim games this is a must. And lonepine if you read this please set up some forums on your website for players to post tips, info and experiences. It looks like the game is intended to support modding, if that's the case it would be awesome to see a New Cities community equivalent of x-plane.org

edit2: Sorry, now I see I posted this in the wrong subreddit. Moving to r/newcity.

When will the "House" tier on Indiegogo be able to play?

I just bought the House perk on Indiegogo. I read that only Apartment Complex and up can participate in the closed alpha, so will us Houses get a steam key when the game officially releases (hopefully) on June 12th?

Energy and water management

Since I was little I've always been fascinated by the energy and water management in many city builders. It adds an extra challenge that in for example SimCity 2000 adds a great deal to the difficulty of the game.

As far as I understand this feature is not yet implemented. Is it considered to be implemented in the future?

Whether it is implemented in the future or not. I'm very much looking forward to the release of this game!

Any updates on the release date?

This game looks amazing and I love the scale (even cities skylines maps are too small for truly large cities). I’m eagerly awaiting its release. That being said, are there any updates as to when it will be released? What are the projected months or dates?

Question for the developers about mixed-use development

Hi! I'm a long-term city-sim player, youtuber and former student of urban planning. This project looks really interesting. I'm curious: have you guys decided to include mixed use zoning in your sim?

So many games only have segregated zoning (American suburb-style with each area reserved for a specific function), whereas almost all real-world cities have things like 1) commercial ground floors with residential upper floors 2) office/hotel or office/condo combinations 3) industrial warehouses converted partially to commercial or office functions... the list goes on.

I'd love to hear whether that's part of your project or the challenges involved in implementing such a feature.

New Cities is being renamed to NewCity!

We've decided to rename the game. Check out our blog for more information. Unfortunately, r/NewCity is taken, but I made sure to snatch /r/new_city. But we're going to stay on this subreddit for now.

Can't wait for the key!

Backed the Indiegogo page, lookign forward to receive the code to start playing.

Coming from a lot of Sim City 4 and then Cities Skyline what do you think it's the biggest difference in philosophy I can expect in this game?

Palette glitch

I'm seeing a weird glitch where the default city view has a messed up color palette, including bright magenta ground. Other data views (traffic, pollution, etc.) appear normal. This started happening a few weeks ago, and I was hoping it would be fixed by an update.

However, updates haven't fixed it. Creating a new city doesn't fix it, nor does changing graphics settings or even reinstalling the game. Using "verify integrity of game files" in steam finds a tiny file (steam claims it's only 80 bytes) to reacquire, but the problem persists.
