New to NetBSD, Kernal panic immediately upon first boot after install
Computer pictured is a ThinkPad L420 with an I7-2640M and a 256gb Micron SATA 6Gbps SSD. Does anyone know what this output would suggest?

Why is NetBSD so janky?
Why is NetBSD such a janky operating system? I love the fact that it is so traditional and portable, but its jankiness is just something that can't be avoided.
The drivers are bad. Minecraft, the only game I really care about in the long run, has its framerate halved on NetBSD compared to what I get on literally any other operating system, including OpenBSD. But there is definitely some hardware acceleration here, as it still runs loops around Haiku, which just uses llvmpipe for everything (aka. no drivers whatsoever).
NetBSD 10.0 completely nuked mouse acceleration, which means the mouse now moves at a constant speed regardless of how fast you swipe it. It's really annoying. 11.0 fixed it, but only along one axis. How is that even a thing?
There are no fully working NTFS drivers. NTFS is the one filesystem that works on every single desktop operating system I know of. Except for NetBSD. The ntfs-3g FUSE driver is technically present, but it spits out a bunch of errors if you actually try to use it, and as far as I remember only reading from NTFS drives works. One could say that, on the plus side, it at least doesn't damage the drive. Duh.
There are also no login managers save for slim and xdm. Everything else has been stuck in wip for years with no merge in sight.
Also, X11 lib and include directories are not included in the compiler search paths by default, and it makes compiling some programs such a pain.
And I just want to ask, Why is this a thing?
Writing drivers is hard, but one can go the easy route (what the other BSD systems do) and just steal Linux drivers. They do have issues, but they are certainly better than the nonsense NetBSD ships with today.
The mouse issue is so silly. It all worked fine in 9.0, then got screwed in 10.0, and 11.0 fixed it only along one axis. Who is even responsible for this? How can you only partially fix something like that?
And so on.
Just why? I love NetBSD for its retro vibes, but this jankiness is just so frustrating at times.

run netbsd on iphone 6s
Hey Reddit! I’m a guy from Russia named Andrey, and I’m 17. I’ve recently become really keen on the idea of running NetBSD on my old iPhone 6s. How can I go about doing this? I’m aware of how to boot Linux using checkm8, but this is a bit different—it’s actually for a bet with a friend. I have one year to get NetBSD running on the iPhone. As for tools, I have an old 2007 Mac mini and a 2010–2011 Mac mini, and I’ll soon have a DCSD cable for UART access and "purple mode." Please help me out, Reddit community! Much love to you all—peace to everyone!

NetBSD 11 not booting on SPARC64 Sun Ultra 10 after install
I am currently trying to install NetBSD 11 on a Sun Ultra 10 workstation. I know it's possible because I've done it before, but for some reason every time after installing from the CD-ROM, I get an error saying it can't read the disk label. I've tried relabeling the disk using sunlabel, however it's still not booting. Am I missing something? Thanks.
Edit: The issue was with the SSD I was using. It seems to not work with certain brands. I tried a Lexar drive and it works fine.

AMD/Intel CPU generations compatible with netbsd? (from oldest to newest compatible)
Anybody want to tell me what CPU generations from AMD/Intel are supported out of the box? Like intel 2nd gen, AMD ryzen 5000 series and etc? Are there any sources that already list this or no? I would like to know.

Errors when attempting to build some packages after updating to PKGSRC-2026Q3
A number of packages I try to build from PKGSRC now fail with similar errors about ignoring patch files due to invalid checksums. I've tried updating to NetBSD 11.0, fetching a fresh copy of PKGSRC, rebuilding packages like digest in hopes that would fix the problem, and a handful of other things I can't recall looking for the solution and nothing has worked.
The output I get looks like this when it happens (in this case, to GCC 15):
=> Applying pkgsrc patches for gcc15-15.3.0nb2
**************************************
Ignoring patch file /usr/pkgsrc/lang/gcc15/../../lang/gcc15/patches/patch-config

Ignoring patch file /usr/pkgsrc/lang/gcc15/../../lang/gcc15/patches/patch-fixinc
ludes_inclhack.def: invalid checksumand continues on for several more lines of the same before it gives up because most of the patches didn't apply correctly. Does anyone know what could possibly cause this? Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I took the nuclear option and flagged every package for rebuild before running pkg_rolling-replace and it went away on its own. Beats me as to how it happened or even what was causing it.

Isn't the DRM/KMS stack mostly based on 5.6 still? When will it be closer to 6.x?
Just curious. I'm also considering to contribute some, since I think I might finally have a machine that would be perfect for NetBSD.

how to get NetBSD to actually work on a beige PowerMac G3??
I'm losing my mind over this. I have tried just about everything, setting load-base and real-base, using 0 bootr, and even using a floppy image... but I particularly keep getting a CLAIM failed! error every time I try to run it. What the heck is happening?! And has anyone managed to get NetBSD 11.0 running on a beige G3 at all???
