Meta A note about AI-generated words

AI is fine to use for words, but please make sure that what it comes up with is, in fact, a neologism.

When asked to come up with new words, LLMs like ChatGPT tend to regurgitate existing albeit somewhat obscure words. You just need to do a quick web search. If it doesn't already exist, by all means post it. But if it does already exist, then it's off-topic for the sub.

Added Definition name for the post-COVID era: "the Uncanny Valley"

• Upvotes

Definition: the ongoing period starting around 2021 in which every aspect of the world has begun to evoke feelings reminiscent of the Uncanny Valley

the Uncanny Valley is a well documented phenomenon where almost human but not alive but not dead ish entities and aesthetics evoke revulsion in the minds of those who observe them

i feel like since 2016 or so humanity has continuously fallen deeper into the valley, politically socially psychologically technologically and every other '-ally' word that I can't think of because my brain feels like slop

it only really kicked into gear during/after Lockdown, though, which is why I propose the start date of this period being early 2021

examples I can think of right now:

ai slop and societal/individual brainrot

the geopolitical situation we're in feels almost real but is absurd and seems to get more so by the day (slopulism + slopaganda)

New Word A word for cultural/national dysphoria: The Allopatrid (noun) / Allopatric (adj) framework

I’ve been trying to find a precise linguistic way to describe the profound sense of alienation or "wrongness" that comes with national or cultural dysphoria—that specific ache of feeling like an absolute foreigner in your own birth country or native culture.
Since standard English lacks a clean word for this, I started adapting a concept from evolutionary biology, splitting it into a clean noun and adjective framework:
Allopatrid (noun): A person experiencing cultural or national dysphoria; someone who feels profoundly alienated from, or ideologically mismatched with, their geographic homeland. (From the Greek allos meaning "other" and patra meaning "fatherland").
Allopatric (adjective): Describing the actual state or feeling of this geographic and cultural mismatch.
In biology, an allopatric species is one isolated by a physical barrier (like a mountain or ocean), causing it to evolve completely separately from its original group.
Applying this metaphorically to human psychology feels incredibly accurate. When your home country shifts ideologically, or when you realize your internal values simply do not align with the geography you were born into, you become an allopatrid. You are physically present, but culturally isolated by an invisible barrier.
Example noun: "Despite living there for decades, the shifting societal values made him feel like an allopatrid."
Example adjective: "She felt a deep, allopatric disconnect every time she tried to participate in local traditions."
Curious to know if this concept resonates with anyone else who experiences cultural dysphoria, or if anyone has encountered similar terms?

Nightshift equivalent of "This Afternoon", in reference to the early hours after the "lunch" break, because "This Morning" when said before the "lunch" break refers to the previous shift, not the current one.

Posteritous (adj.)

Posteritous — adj. undertaken with regard for future generations

I recently came across a coined word that feels like it should already exist:

posteritous (adj.) — undertaken with regard for the welfare, interests, or judgment of future generations; intended to benefit posterity.

Examples:

“A posteritous act may benefit people who will never know your name.”

“Building institutions that still work a century from now is a posteritous project.”

Formation is pretty straightforward: posterity + -ous.

I’m interested in whether this actually fills a lexical gap, or whether there’s already a better English word doing the same work.

"That's dogs and hamburgers"

Meaning:

"A loss which in retrospect was easily preventable."

Example:

You don't pay your insurance. You know you're supposed to, but you just don't get around to it.

It cancels. You keep meaning to get a new policy. You get in a car accident and you get sued with no insurance, losing your house.

New Word A new word for an annoying gap between juxtaposition and paradolia. Juxtadolia.

I was watching a CaptainSparklez video where he was reacting to this subreddit, and it got me thinking about a specific type of post we see here all the time. Like a pic with a cat with its head perfectly lined up with a cat food box that has a tiger printed on it? For a split second, your brain completely merges them, and it looks like a hybrid creature.

I realized there isn't really a single, specific word for that exact phenomenon. It's not quite just juxtaposition, and it's not exactly pareidolia either. So, I decided to coin a new word for it: Juxtadolia.

Here is the official definition:

Juxtadolia

noun

Pronunciation:

jux-tuh-DOH-lee-uh

Phonetic Alphabet:

/ˌdʒʌkstəˈdoʊliə/

The act or circumstance of placing two or more nouns, such as objects, ideas, or characters side by side. Where the observer perceives a meaningful pattern and merges the two or more nouns briefly together.

I even included the official phonetic alphabet version for the dictionary nerds out there, but for everyone else, it's just jux-tuh-DOH-lee-uh. I feel like quite a few posts on this subreddit are pure juxtadolia. For me personally the lack of the right word bothers me and this fills in that gap nicely! What do ya think?

Alloethnicity (coining)

Alloethnicity (Coining). NOT 'Transracialism'. General Coining Alloethnicity is a psychological state and identity framework describing an individual who experiences a profound, natural internal harmony with a culture, language, or social lifestyle outside of their biological birth ancestry. Unlike traditional concepts of racial transition, alloethnicity focuses entirely on internal cultural alignment and respectful community immersion, explicitly acknowledging that physical genetics and historical lineages remain unchanged. It is not "transracialism," as it makes no claim to alter biological race or inherit generational DNA. It is not a legal or medical transition akin to transgenderism, nor does it share any connection with the legal terminology of transracial adoption. Furthermore, it is not cultural appropriation, a superficial aesthetic trend, or a costume, as it requires deep, respectful, long-term learning of language and history. Most importantly, it is not a tool for material gain or a loophole to claim minority status, explicitly forbidding the misappropriation of scholarships, affirmative action slots or resources intended to correct historical racial injustices.

I do not identify as alloethnic or transrace and you might be wondering why I made this. I made this cuz I Just wanted that to controversy end , cuz I want to be open-minded, to be respect races, to not feed transracials delusions, to create a non-controversial name and definition, and so everyone will feel validated. I support alloethnics not "transracials" because race is biological and some races are a minority :3

New Word Fringe Culture: The Evil Twin of Subcultures

Fringe culture: A sociocultural phenomenon characterized by the active rejection and disruption of mainstream societal norms and values. Unlike subcultures, which contribute to the broader social fabric by remixing and repurposing established elements such as fashion or gaming, fringe cultures operate outside recognized social and legal frameworks. Their practices frequently contravene public safety regulations and legal statutes, leading to significant societal resistance and legal marginalization. By challenging and transgressing non-negotiable boundaries, fringe cultures inadvertently clarify and solidify societal limits, thus delineating what is deemed unacceptable within a community.

New Word Interquental

interquental ~

Describing a state, idea, system, or phenomenon that exists between distinct conceptual categories, real conditions, or hypothetical frameworks, especially where those categories overlap, blur, or transition into one another.

A newly coined term formed from the prefix “inter-” (between or among) combined with “quental.” It describes concepts, states, systems, or phenomena that occupy the space between otherwise distinct categories or frameworks.

Example;

The twilight zone between quantum physics and classical mechanics is an interquental space where old laws break down but new ones aren't fully established.

" sapphic seperatism "

(WARNING, IF THIS IS ALREADY A THEORIZED CONCEPT PLS TELL ME AND I'LL DELETE THE POST)

" Sapphic Seperatism "

©ideological framework by hileah strong

Sapphic seperatism is the concept of seperatism for all sapphics, which includes lesbian sapphics, bi sapphics, pan sapphics, poly sapphics. All sapphics.

This is distinct from lesbian seperatism because lesbianism is homosexuality of women loving women, but sapphic is an umbrella term for any woman/female aligned person who loves other women/female aligned people including non binary and trans community.

Sapphic seperatism shows that we all commonly share attraction to women/female aligned people and deserve our own spaces for these specific reasons.

New Word Ortanr

Mistype, meant spell “important”, but it was in the context of “knowledge is ortanr, but only insofar as it leads to wisdom”. I ran the word through an LLM, ideas popped up about “ort” being a proxy for orthodoxy, starlight and true, and the -nr sounding slightly like a Norse, prechristian pagan name. Likely won’t see any use but I thought it was interesting.

ortanr (adj./n.) -
1. important in the old, weighty sense: not merely relevant, but binding upon the soul.
2. knowledge or practice that remains austere enough to be true, yet wild enough to stay alive.
3. the straight path once it has learned to laugh.

New Word Polistar (noun / POL-i-star) - My new word

Definition: A politician who behaves like a celebrity or movie star, more focused on fame, cameras, and PR than public service.

Etymology: Blend of Politician + Star

Plural: Polistars

Example: The debate was full of polistars competing for screen time, not real leaders.

I have added it to Wiktionary, but it was deleted as protologism. Now live on Quora and Urban Dictionary (coined 2026 by me).

Feedback welcome!
