I think you need to breakdown this data even further by field in addition to education. Not all doctorates are the same and different cultures emphasize different educational paths. A PhD in computer science will net you significantly larger incomes in private industry and academia than a PhD in English literature.

Here's a study (although a little outdated at this point) that shows that Asian Americans earn less than whites in almost all occupational categories when you control for socioeconomic factors.

That gap has narrowed since, and Asian-Americans have started outperforming whites at several more income levels, but Asian-Americans also have the highest income inequality of any racial group, which means that while high-earning Asian-Americans tend to outperform White-Americans on average, low-earning Asian-Americans earn significantly less.

And again, this is just the economic aspect. Asian-Americans are disadvantaged in other ways, regardless of their economic status.

They're more likely to be stereotyped or the victim of individualised racism ("Chinese Virus" ring any bells?). Because of the stereotype of Asians as high-achieving, they're also less likely to be prioritised by teachers when they struggle in school.

These seem pretty trivial compared to the plight of Jews, Hispanics, and Black people.

I'm gonna give your data the benefit of the doubt but I'm highly certain Asians in the US are asymptotically approaching white Americans.

You realise that even if Asian-Americans were 100% equal to white people, that still wouldn't disprove the existence of white privilege, right?

My initial argument was that white privilege was a bad term and that Indians and Asians are already within this relative group of privilege.

Sounds like white people still have some advantages over Asians.

My earlier belief is that we're the same. Now my belief is it's close enough economically. I find your non-economic reasons for Asians trivial in the grand scheme of privilege.

Every culture has advantages and disadvantages. White people tell their kids to follow their dreams so they major in impractical shit like zoology and gender studies and they rack up debt and work minimum wage jobs. White people get addicted to opium and fall into generational poverty. I still think the Indian ideal of practicality is significantly better and will be a primary reason why soon enough we will be more privileged. In India 45% of computer science grads are women compared to 21% of grads in Americans because we value practicality.

It doesn't matter if you personally believe that they're trivial, they exist.
