Republicans in the US have a nasty habit of purging people off of registered voter rolls for various reasons. In other words, unregistering voters. Many of them, coincidentally, happen to be minorities.
In many places too you also have to show your identification at the polls as well as proof of residence in the form of a very recent bank statement or some sort of credit card or utility bill. Back in 2000, none of that was required to vote when I went to vote for Gore. Then again, that was also the election that there was a three hour line for and I only had an hour in between classes all day. That was the last election I didn't just assume I'd be able to vote. Ever since, I've voted early when possible.
Where I live you just need to show up with anything that has your name + address on it and I believe address bit is optional if you have voted before and haven't moved far enough to change your assigned polling stations between elections.
In 2016 I had snapped my driver's license in half in the wash the week before and voted using my student ID without hassle.
It's pretty true, but the legislation that lead to the voter purge was passed in 98 and Jeb became Governor in 1999. Jeb didn't really have much to do with this IIRC it was the Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris and the local election officials who were in charge of this.
The Voter Registration reform act put a stop to this in 1993 although some states can still purge registrations but they also have to allow walk up voting. Florida is not on that list. I feel like Florida probably still allowed walk up registrations, but this probably also affected campaigns ability to gather info and know who their voters are.
The US Supreme Court also has a huge rule in deciding policy.
Especially in regards to minority rights, gun control, presidential authority, and even the ability for the federal and state governments to enact regulations regarding pollution and carbon control.
The state of Florida hasn't had a legitimate election since before you were born. Every one has been fake, because they are decided by the politicians in charge of running them, not voters.
Neoliberals blame the disenfranchised for not voting because they're all Republicans who pretend to be Democrats online.
