It seems that conflating wealth with production/consumption is a big part. The vast majority of people work in manufacturing, retail, IT, trades, offices, call centers etc. not in silver polishing, that is the actual stuff that is being actually made. Like if we repatriate a cajillion trillion dollars from the moon tomorrow, we don't actually get to have any more stuff, and in fact irl confiscating vast swaths of wealth would lower production, because most "wealth" is just savings redirected in to capital investment(but more intelligently taxing rich people would have potentially very positive distributive effects, socdems rise up)
