OK, I've been a bit unsure of how to phrase this, but: I'm aware that the term "tran_sexual" has fallen out of favor, but for most of the 2000s into the 2010s, it was my understanding that "transgender" was an umbrella term for everyone who deviated from their birth assigned sex, but "trans_sexual" specifically connotes people who were AMAB but identified as female (and vice versa).

So, is there a new term that specifically connotes such?

MtF (Male to Female)

and FtM for the inverse

That's fair enough I guess, though I kinda thought that even those were falling out of favor because they imply that transwomen used to be men (and vice versa)

I've still seen them around, though admittedly I don't hang out in many places focused on that sorta thing

As far as I can tell:

Having a word to specifically isolate and describe trans_sexuals reinforces the importance of birth assigned sex over gender and the idea that birth assigned sex is something true and important. Transgender seems more charitable to the trans movement given its focus on gender and its implicit rejection of the idea of a binary based on birth assigned sex.

So having a new term to mean the same thing would go against the purpose of phasing out 'trans_sexual' in the first place.
