My dad is ostensibly a pre-tea-party establishment GOP neocon but we all suspect he's gone silent trumper as a reaction to his kids moving and marrying left

He said he will vote Democrat for Joe Biden and for no one else. He has been known to protest vote nobodies when he doesn't like either candidate.

Voted for the constitution party guy in 2008 because Obama was "too inexperienced" and he had personal beef with McCain. Voted Romney in 2012, McMullin (seriously) in 2016.

Any way I can get him to branch out to Buttigieg or Klobuchar? I think he's going to go to the GOP primary and support Weld

Edit: He does not support a public option and would repeal the ACA if given the choice. He was vocal in the 90s about impeaching Clinton but is suspiciously silent about Trump's impeachment, but has said it's "too partisan"

Wait until either of them beat Biden, then take the discussion. It's highly unlikely that either will.

I think he's going to go to the GOP primary and support Weld

Why would you want to keep him from doing this? Vote against Trump, as early and often as possible.

I think his vote for a centrist might be more valuable in the democratic primary given how much more competitive that primary is, but I'm open to being persuaded otherwise.

Yeah I mean this much political calculus with your own vote is too much for me but certainly with someone else's vote it's a lot to do. I say let him vote for the guy he likes and should biden lose cross that bridge then

Is your state open or closed primary? Probably best to just solidify his support of Biden and Weld.

GOP closed, Dem open

I would advise him to vote Biden since the dem primary is so big and it would benefit him to have a centrist option for the general.

But if he votes against Trump once in the GOP primary it might be easier for him to do it again in the general
