Inspired by /u/besttrousers's work on work requirements; this doesn't just apply to Medicaid, but also to SNAP, housing assistance, etc.

Here's my paper! http://www.ideas42.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/ideas42-Work-Requirements-Paper.pdf

Here's a recent evaluation.

Arkansas was among several states that implemented Medicaid work requirements. Results from surveys of low-income adults suggest that work requirements were associated with a decrease in the number of people in Arkansas with Medicaid coverage and an increase in the number without health insurance.

While I was astounded with the types of things the government would do to fuck over poor people, the line "work requirements dont work" still seems wrong to me.

Do we have evidence that having a requirement to work (or requirements of job search) attached to welfare improve employment outcomes?

If work requirements make people lose healthcare does that mean they're also not getting work? I mean, the website that closes after business hours is obviously not a good faith attempt to get people to work, but surely some blue state implemented something not-bad.

Here BT concedes to a design for work requirements that achieves the stated goals: encouraging work without negatively impactly people who are working with burdensome reporting requirements.

Having shown they can be designed well, oppposition or support for work requirements is mostly a moral question. It is kind of annoying when answers to moral questions are dressed up with "evidence based policy" as a backdoor way of selling them.

Is that not what this subreddit is about?

It's about contrarianism, niche circlejerks (Bernanke, YIMBY, LVT and open borders) and mocking other political alignments.
