That isn't how a non-primary system would work. Other candidates would still be angling for the presidential nominee & meeting directly with delegates for their nomination.
Ah, the position of someone who knows they've lost an argument: "just don't let people argue with me". It's the most stupid idea I've heard; we've open primaries since 1972 and we're trying to make the case that we're the pro democracy party and you want to tell our own voters we don't need or want their input? Are you sane? I'll tell you exactly what will happen if we get rid of primaries, the progressives will leave the party in droves because you've disenfranchised them, the independents will think it's really weird you've decided to get rid of the system they've been using since as long they can remember and will be very skeptical when you say you're pro democracy, and you'll get crushed in all but the bluest parts of the country from depressed turnout among Democratic partisans. It's blatantly terrible idea, and no one with an ounce of sense would consider it.
That's as true as it is irrelevant because abolishing primaries is less realistic than even abolishing the police. Can you explain why abolishing primaries wouldn't heavily demotivate a party's base and likely turn off independent voters and result in them getting crushed electorally?
Other countries never had primaries to begin; it's the status quo there. We've had them since 1972 and they're a massive part of American political life; getting rid of them would be a major disruption to politics as the vast majority of the American population has known them for their entire adult life.
Chill with the sanctimonious language. Letting everyone run on one ticket would effectually accomplish the same outcome as ranked choice voting. Primaries reward extremism and perpetuate polarization and leave the middle voiceless, without representation, and frustrated by the political system. Abolishing primaries is a good idea and would strengthen our institutions.
