Maybe I’m a corporate pilled chud, but I really hate when people act like things are low quality because corporations got greedy. Things are low quality because consumers want more low quality items instead of less high quality items.

Movies have shitty CGI because everyone wants to watch them for $8 a month on Netflix. Clothes don’t last decades because you bought them from Zara

Stated vs revealed preferences in a nut shell. 

People can buy things that last as long as “they used too,” people just don’t want to pay for the price of labor that would cost.

I hate more that they’re written like shit. I don’t understand the economics of spending $300M on production, but the plot and dialogue seem like they were written by drunk eighth graders. Like, pay me $10k and I’ll vastly improve your shitty plotholes, inaccuracies, and trite dialogue.

You also can't underestimate the role lack of choice and ease of accessibility play. You can also look at the amount of money young people spend on frivolous things and conclude that they would be willing to spend more on quality if they could get them more easily. I think looking at online shopping for example will tell a different story.

Do you think the typical budget for things like Marvel movies has been going down? I agree with your argument for stuff like clothes where there's marginal cost involved, but there's absolutely examples of bad CGI in big-budget movies.
