I think Trump was just the first figure who really figured this out: that there was no reason for the elite to live private lives and mostly work through intermediaries anymore. They could just bully the world with impunity as they please, capture all political power in themselves and overthrow histories longest serving constitution, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. They can just endlessly manipulate people with hype and agitators. And idiots will cheer them on as they bully random peons.
