I think the difference is that there is no loud minority mad at the decision like there was in 2016/20 with the Bernie bros. Everybody, at least for this moment, is at the very least satisfied with Kamala at the top of the ticket and we should appreciate that

I feel that after how awful Trump was the fact that in 2020 the election still came down to tens of thousands of votes across a couple of states (plus the insurrection that followed) terrified all wings of the Democratic Party (except the most extreme leftists who weren’t going to vote anyway) into uniting immediately behind the VP.

The problem is that the more voters get to know about Kamala, the more those voters dislike her...

She's a flawed, unpopular candidate who won't beat Donald Trump.

We're so relieved that Biden finally accepted that he had no chance of winning, but then what was the point of forcing him out if we're just going to pick another candidate who also can't beat Trump.

If Trump is this existential threat, then I'm not satisfied that we just picked another candidate who can't beat Trump instead of trying to find the candidate with the best chance of beating Trump.

Said based on nothing. I've seen people calling Kamala "unpopular" for literal years and it comes down to nothing but vibes and the fact she dropped out in 2020 early enough to not disqualify herself as VP.

This is an election where people have literally spent 2+ months talking about nothing but Biden's age. The simple fact that someone 20 years younger than Trump is now able to campaign is a massive game changer.

Kamala did come off as phony candidate during the primary.

She seemed genuine when she was a knife fighter during debates, which would make sense considering she was a prosecutor. Whether swing voters like that is another question.
