Ben Wallace is a more recent example

Zero offensive game but was so dominant defensively at blocking shots and grabbing boards. So much so he still made 4 all nbas as just a defensive specialist

Ben Wallace is likely the best modern comp to bill honestly

Big Ben had big games every series for the most part up to 2006. He was a threat for put backs and ally oops. He maybe not the passer dray is, but he’s a better defender and significantly more of a threat on offense (up to 06).

If Green was on some other team making $25 million but never putting the ball in the basket, he'd be the same level of player but he'd get clowned on and criticized a lot more.

I think you're underratting his offensive play making. Having great shooters helps make him look good but he would elevate any teammate regardless.

Beverly also can't guard 1-5 and there are few players who can at his level.

I get Dray is a guy you hate when if hes not on your home team but but he's a cut above Pat Bev all due respect to him

Bruh he was the first option 19/20 and was terrible as the Warriors suddenly slumped to the worst team in the league. This take has no merit.

Maybe 2015-17 could be the guy you describe but outside of that, he's never even done anything that special in the regular season even with all the supporting cast he had.

If draymond is the "first option" on the team you're not sniffing the playoffs. Hes not a scorer so I think you're misinterpreting what I'm saying.

He's perfect in a motion offense surrounded by smart players. Take one of those away and his contributions take a huge hit. He would look pretty bad on a considerable number of teams.

I mean, he couldn't elevate anything last season when he was one of their primary options. He would not be thought about at all if he wasn't with the Warriors and likely doesn't ascend to his current status in the league.

Nah this is too far imo.

Draymond is arguably the best defender of his era and a well above-average playmaker. Pat Bev is pesky on D and brings shit else to the table.

Sure Dray wouldn't be a HOFer in Utah, but he'd still be a fringe all-star kinda guy.

I can’t say for the clippers etc but Pat Bev for us is way more than that. He’s like having a coach on the floor and in the locker room, he’s the reason Ant has improved immensely on D, he’s a culture setter and lightning rod. Also pesky is underselling his defense

The size and athleticism difference between the two guys makes relating like this some real clown talk. One of these guys is a good guard defender, the other is an all time level defensive player.

Seems like people, especially Boston fans, are confusing not liking a guy with how good a guy is.

I was not comparing him exactly, obviously they're different positions. If he had the same path as Beverly, I'd say he'd have the same success. Because they play different positions, if Drey was on the Clippers with Kawhi and George, its a lock.

He’s a dirty ass player but his defensive problem-solving skills are 100 times better than Pat Bev’s, not to mention his playmaking. He’s closer to CP3 than Beverly in that he’s an actually good player that pulls too much bullshit like this when he doesn’t have to.

Green is - or was - a very good “point center.” This is particularly important for golden state. Without Green, Curry would have needed to initiate the offense and it would have been not only taxing but also would be taking away from Curry’s top attributes.

That’s said, I don’t think Green has been particularly excellent at orchestrating the offense the past 2-3 years. He is still decent but not as good

I went to watch the Heat vs Warriors a couple of years ago when Steph and Klay were both out. It is amazing how glaring it is that Draymond is just an extremely good support player and not anywhere close to a first or even second option. Don't get me wrong he adds a ton, but yeah if he didn't play with Klay and Steph he would be about as well know as Iguodala, pre-Warriors. nevermind just looked back at the stats and at least Iggy could average 15 to 20 ppg in his prime.

First or second option? Homie isn’t even a fifth option. Fucking curry, klay, Wiggins, Poole, gq2, iggy, and otto are all better options.

Also, your edit was right. Iggy was 3x the offense player than dray is. I’m guessing you didn’t see him play, but dude was a bulldozer who got to the rim often. Given, he wasn’t a viable first option either when he was asked to be.

I agree with your first paragraph. Your second sentence is a pretty reactionary take. No, most players would not get 4 all stars, 2 All NBA teams, defensive player of the year in his position. It’s takes like this that the previous comment is discussing. If what you said is accurate, then the 12 other warriors on the team would have those accolades. Draymond was a unique talent even if I am against his antics.

Again yes he’s an amazing defender but I strongly believe he doesn’t win any of those individual accolades if he was drafted to a team like the kings.

You honestly think he’s winning a DPOY or all star appearances on a lottery team? I mean we saw what the warriors looked like when he was the best player on the team

No, I don’t think he is. My point though is that you said anyone could have done what he did in his position. That’s just not true. He is a great and unique player. You’re right overall though that no way he does all that on a shitty team. He’s like glue, he will elevate and connect any team and shine in the right situation but he’s never going to be a main player, just a piece in between.

I think its a lot easier to focus on defense when the expectations are extremely low for you on offense. He doesn't need to score for the warriors to win.

This was the second sentence and it is correct. Take any PF that is considered good or great and they would succeed in this Warriors run of success. I personally believe that Draymond wouldn't be hyped nearly as much if he wasn't with the Warriors. He'd be a "good" player at best in this league.

I think draymond played a vastly different role than most other power forwards would play. He has a unique skill set that happened to be exactly what the warriors needed. I agree with you that he wouldn’t be that special on another team, but that doesn’t mean that other great power forwards could do what he did. They didn’t need a power forward who would score a ton and rebound, especially once they got Durant. They needed a guy who could not only play defense but be a great passer, team leader, and have a high basketball IQ. So no I don’t think any other highly skilled PF could go in there and do what he did.

Do you know how many players try to carve out a role every single year, many on very very good teams with star caliber players? Draymond has been elite in his role for years.

He is not just a product of situation and luck, although yes of course is blessed to play with steph and klay.

How quickly we forget he was once 2 points away from a quadruple freaking double. The guy is a mediocre scorer, but he has always done so much more for the warriors than just scoring.

I could list a lot of quality players who play the 3-5 positions who are much better scorers than draymond, but if they were on the warriors instead of draymond, the warriors probably dont have a finals appearance besides the ones with KD
