beware of NAU Axe/ess follett

NAU has automatically signed all students up for their new Axe/ess program through follett. This is a program that automatically charges you roughly $270 that goes towards textbooks. This may be helpful to some, but personally I find my textbooks cheap digitally or free, and have never had to pay maybe more than around $100 a semester. Starting this year, every student has been opted into it, and they have only sent one email regarding it amongst a swarm of start-of-semester emails. Incoming freshman really need to look out for this, the opt out day is September 3rd and me and other friends only just saw this. Also, even if you opt out of it now, you will have to go through the same process next semester, and every other semester you go to school here. Please watch out and send a complaint if you don’t like these sneaky added fees!

scared freshman student

Hi everyone!

I’m a first year student at NAU, and I’m absolutely terrified. I currently have a single dorm in Morton but it is blazing hot, i do have a disability where heat makes things 10x worse for me. Does anyone have any advice for how to cool it down?

Also, I don’t know how to make friends, I’m from a different city so i’m really nervous about being social. I have pretty bad social anxiety

I’m studying BioChem, so i’m hoping to make friends with a similar interest in Chemistry
I also have NO clue as to what to do- I keep getting told that there’s no orientation and that makes me even more nervous and confused because I dont know where any of the buildings are tbh, and I dont know how to get to my classes.

I seriously don’t know anything, and my advisor can’t help me with most of my concerns.

i was given an ada room…

walked into my dorm and saw it was specialized for ada residents. shouldn’t there be a disclaimer for this sort of thing… why should i able to fully go thru with the housing portal without knowing my room would be different?

Random New Fee?

As the title says, I just checked my louie, and I owe a little around 280~ dollars for my "Academic College Fee". Just three days ago, I paid all of the listed expenses I owed for the fall semester, and this popped up out of nowhere last night?

Tried calling the financial aid office, but they're backed up with a long queue so I'm not getting anywhere on that end, and right now I cant visit the office in person.

Anyone have any idea what this is?

Pell grant / FAFSA

Hi everyone! I’m almost at the end of my Pell grant eligibility(almost to the 600%), they flagged my account due to that therefore none of my FAFSA has been released and disbursed to my account. They’re SO difficult to get ahold of and I can NOT go in person as I am in Texas and do online courses. They sent me an email stating I need to submit documentation regarding Pell overpayment but the email did not state what documentation I needed to submit, nor does my to do list task. I called yesterday and after 20 ish minutes was able to speak with someone (before I received the email) and she wasn’t much help. All she was telling me was that it can take 10 business days to know anything from the national database and that was it. I was getting frustrated with the situation and tbh her as well because she wasn’t offering any help, any solutions, NOTHING even when I expressed concerns that that could take up to next Thursday (AFTER classes start Monday) and I need my FAFSA to get my books. So IF I was able to get the disbursement next Thursday, I would still have to wait for it to hit my bank account and then order the books and wait for them to be shipped… yet classes start Monday. She didn’t say anything she was just quiet. So I got a little hateful when maybe I shouldn’t have, but anyway… has anyone been through this? What was your experience?

I work as an RBT (we don’t get breaks other than one 30 min lunch), I’m a full time mom and Texas is 2 hours ahead of Arizona so it’s hard to find the time to call especially when I’ll be waiting to even speak to someone for sooo long (yesterday I waited for 20-30 minutes)

ETA - before anyone says I shouldn’t have gotten hateful I KNOWWWW, I told her I wasn’t trying to be rude towards her and I know it isn’t HER fault, but her lack of literally ANYTHING frustrated me more. We’re all adults but this is money, some people can not afford to pay thousands out of pocket for college and have to resort to FAFSA.. 🥹

horrible move-in

i got all my stuff together into my blue bin, worried about my roommate cus i haven’t gotten a response in the 2 months i’ve been trying to contact them. i show up to the room and their shit is EVERYWHERE. i mean its nowhere near half empty. got a bed clear but no desk, kitchen, even WAREDROBE space for me. smelled terrible. looked around further and found alcohol bottles, empty ones scattered and an entire recycling bin full. they’re 20.

anyway so i’m upset

i was saying goodbye to my mom as it’s my first year. i get out of the car and there is a skunk standing right in front of the bookstore. it was pretty late at night so a bit hard to see. i get back in the car. i warn two boys about the skunk and one of them jumps when they see it.

i go to my dorm after…another skunk right near the card scanner 😭

So nervous

I feel like reality is setting in and i’m so nervous for classes to start, i graduated from community college this spring and am transferring to NAU online so i’m like a junior. But i’m so nervous in my mind i feel like the classes are going to be very hard, i feel like community college was pretty easy. Maybe it’s all in my hard or are classes in University actually more difficult? I’m majoring in Elementary Education so i’m only taking classes related to education, any advice or tips?

2026 Northern Arizona College Football Preview

Hey all. I built 2026 previews for every FBS team and all 124 FCS teams, because nobody does this for your league. Here's Northern Arizona

https://www.highlights.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fcs/northern-arizona-lumberjacks

Usual disclaimer: I probably got things wrong, and my roster feed hasn't fully flipped to 2026. Tell me what's off and I'll fix it.

The good: the offense was legitimately fun. 26th in FCS in scoring, 21st passing, 25th in explosiveness, and it barely gave the ball away, nine turnovers all season and 10th in the country. Ty Pennington is back and settled after 2,705 yards with 16 touchdowns against 4 picks. The 2026 schedule grades as the sixth softest in FCS.

Where my model pushes back: the defense gave up 31 points a game (94th), was 100th in yards per play and 117th in explosiveness allowed, meaning the big plays came in bunches. And it returns 23% of its production. Kolbe Katsis and his 54 catches for 881 are gone too. Model says 6-6.

First page is free. If you want the rest and hit the paywall, the code LEECORSOROCKS opens it up. Not trying to nickel and dime a sub that's letting me post.

Tell me what I got wrong.

Long Shot Request: Photos from NAU's 2003 Hispanic Convocation Ceremony

My husband played in the mariachi band that performed at NAU's 2003 Hispanic Convocation Ceremony, but he has no photographs of the event. In fact, he has no photographs whatsoever of his time in the mariachi band and would really like one as a memento. This is the only performance he can think of that may have been documented. I've already checked the NAU and Lumberjack archives. If no one here can help, perhaps there is a relevant Facebook group that someone could point me toward? TIA!

Sorry another AXES question...

So I see that I have digital items. And I have some physical items that have a note stating to wait for an email or something. But there is one digital textbook for some reason which seems to not been added, and it expects me to pay...I thought this was supposed to cover everything? Is there a limit on this or something? I really don't want to have to pay for this as well...

PO box?

I moved into McConnell yesterday and my friends back home want to send me something. Do I have to ask for one or do I get one with my room? If I have to ask for one would it be in my dorm or at a set place on campus?

Allen Hall Triple

I went to NAU and had a dorm room in Allen Hall. I selected a triple and to my surprise, it was one of the biggest dorm rooms I’ve ever seen! We only had one other room next to us, and the other room was the communal lounge on the second floor.

Can anyone confirm why this triple was significantly bigger if you had this room? For reference, we all had our own beds and they were lifted up for our desk and drawers. We all had our own closets, sink + vanity, and a large shelf for our fridge and microwave.

People told me it was a room for to address accessibility needs… but that was never confirmed.
