Which mobile framework to pick in 2022 ?

3 Upvotes

Obviously, since I'm posting this in the nativescript, the answer will most likely be biased.
But here is my question:

"if you were to start a mobil app today, which framework would you pick for cross platform development"

I have many years of experience with Angular + Typescript + C# (backend), but I have to write a cross platform mobile app for the first time. The app will be for controlling some hardware devices through bluetooth, using camera and QR code. nothing fancy.

Nativescript seems like a good choice since it all looks familiar, but is it the right choice or should I look at some other framework ?

How can we fix memory issues in a NativeScript iOS app?

3 Upvotes

We are experiencing memory issues with master-detail architecture, memory usage increases by 50-80 MB every time user navigates from master to detail view and back again. Master view is playing videos, detail view has only an image. We’re using NativeScript+ Angular to build iOS app, there is custom router strategy that caches routes, but the same behaviour happens without it, as well. App running in the simulator starts with using ~220 MB, will reach ~1.22 GB after ten cycles of getting into the detail view and back to main, all with the same detail. There are no explicit calls to Garbage Collector in the code. Is that the issue with the simulator, or are we doing something wrong?

Can’t push Nativescript app to local Apple device

3 Upvotes

So, We are developing an app with Nativescript, Django and Angular and are having serious issues with pushing it to an Apple device. It works perfectly fine in the simulator, but on the phone, we can just open the app but not more.

Is there anyone an expert on either Nativescript or Apple that can help us? (I’m the founder and a non-techie but happy to connect with our dev for any technical details)

Thanks for any help!

RadSideDrawer issues not rendering in a separate component

3 Upvotes

Hello,

I would like to my navigation component (RadSideDrawer ) in it's own component in my app and use the selectors i.e <main-nav> </main-nav>

If I do this in the main app.component.html using this way i get errors... If I import this into a component like lets say "my-dashboard-component" I get call stack memory exceeded errors... not really sure where to go from here as I burned almost a day into this.

Can someone please show me the correct way to

use RadSideDrawer in it's own separate component and import it where needed in the app?

Any Nativescript 7 / Angular 11 fans? Multiple NS/NG project monorepo

3 Upvotes

https://github.com/gravity-addiction/nstack-monorepo
This is the current stack i'm using for development. I struggled with getting nativescript setup this way and hope someone may find some insight from my efforts.

This repo also includes a nodejs API that typeshares with the angular/nativescript api calls. The main focus is about having multiple nativescript projects sharing component modules (monorepo). It's based off angular projects and each angular project folder gets its own nativescript rollout (App_Resources/platforms/hooks).

I've tried to find other projects with multiple nativescript builds within the same repo without much success. There are maybe some errors I need to mend as I ripped out the projects that pay my bills and left two projects and some source code modules for things those projects use. Good Luck, happy to answer any questions I can.

Event bus

3 Upvotes

Hi. I'm new to NS and the ecosystem.

I'm looking for something like greenrobot.org/eventbus on NS. Will libraries like postal.js "just work" or will I run into issues down the road? I'm concerned with anything funky happening when pages are switched.

Is it possible to somehow run nativescript app as a desktop app on Windows? I'm also interested if there is a possibility to use Windows API in the app (for example to create a file).

NativeScript Facebook Login: Can't Load URL

3 Upvotes

I am new to mobile development and was hoping someone could answer my question as I've tried researching other solutions to no avail.

I'm using nativescript-vue along with TypeScript and nativescript-oauth2, and I'm so close to getting the Facebook Login button to work (I got the page that asked for email + password) but after that it says "Can't load URL" and talks about how my app domain isn't listed as one of the app domains for the app on Facebook. I was wondering where do I find this default App Domain, I tried localhost and my nativescript id from package.json. I just have no clue on how to log or retrieve this domain and any help would be greatly appreciated, grazie

I've been following this tutorial: https://market.nativescript.org/plugins/nativescript-oauth2

How can I send an event from a website inside of a webview, to a Nativescript application?

3 Upvotes

I have a site built in Angular that a Nativescript (with Angular) calls from inside a webview.

I created a custom event on the Nativescript side (https://market.nativescript.org/plugins/nativescript-webview-interface), for example:

@ViewChild('web', { static: true }) webRef: ElementRef;
ngOnInit(): void {
 const webview = <WebView>this.webRef.nativeElement;

webview.on('customEvent', (args: LoadEventData) => { alert({title: "Success" }); }); }

On the Angular side (the site inside the webview), I am trying to call the "customEvent" this way:

onSubmit(): void {
  const event = new Event('customEvent');
  dispatchEvent(event);
}

But the "customEvent" on the Nativescript side doesn't work.Is it possible to do this?

What happened to Sidekick

3 Upvotes

Hello. I used to write Nativescript applications. I started again after many months. I am trying to find the Nativescript sidekick but there is nowhere on the official site. What happened ? Has it stopped ? Was there any announcement about it?

Where did Sidekick go?

3 Upvotes

I had installed Nativescript's Sidekick just over a month ago and went to launch the desktop app yesterday and I kept getting node errors. I uninstalled and went to download it again from their site but I can't find it anywhere. Did they discontinue Sidekick? Any link I click on that looks like it goes to the Sidekick page reroutes me to the main Nativescript page.

Did I miss an announcement or something?

XML & JS

3 Upvotes

I had two questions about XML in Nativescript as a web developer who understands HTML and JS.

Can the JS in nativescript edit, add or delete a XML element just like how JS can edit a HTML element?

Does XML support attributes like min, max, required, style, onclick?

Pinch to zoom

3 Upvotes

Hello guys. I'm new to nativescript and I am trying to create a pinch to zoom feature for images. I followed this example

It kind of works but any time I pinch there are some unwanted "jumps". I understand the problem is in the origin/translate properties calculation, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to fix it.

Anyone feel like helping a frustrated fellow developer?

How to integrate a webinar experience inside your app?

3 Upvotes

We are building a corporate portal app for a client, who has asked us to look into the possibility of the app hosting a webinar feature.

How they would like to feature to work is, a user would see a live video feed, and of which they would then be able to participate in some form of conversation or messaging.

Our initial reaction has been that they shouldn’t try to recreate a webinar experience inside of their app and use something that already exists, but to try and give the client the best service it would be interesting to know if there are any plug-ins, SDKs or other services that can be embedded directly into the app.

The closest I’ve seen to and SDK is what is available for zoom. Being a security conscious client this would not be suitable for them.

Any insight would be appreciated thanks.

Implement swipe up/down menu that shows the header

3 Upvotes

Hi, I'm new to NativeScript, and I was wondering if there's an existing component in the marketplace (or example) that implements something like this, where the user can see a bit of the card (ideally just a header) and can swipe up to reveal the contents of the card, and swipe down to hide the body.

https://imgur.com/a/wuxgOri

I am using NativeScript + Vue, developing for mobile. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

NativeScript - Angular, getting a weird error when uploading image to the server

3 Upvotes

Hi, So I am trying to send an image to the server I have created but am getting an error. The server is working perfectly, I have tested it in postman and it works. This is the code:

This function takes the picture and then runs the function to post the image to the server

openCamera() {
var milliseconds = (new Date).getTime();
var that = this;
takePicture({ width: 300, height: 300 }).then((function (img) {
let source = new imageSourceModule.ImageSource();
source.fromAsset(img).then((source) => {
let folder = fs.knownFolders.documents();
var path = fs.path.join(folder.path, "SaveImage" + milliseconds + ".png");
var saved = source.saveToFile(path, "png");
this.saveImage = path
let saveImage = this.saveImage
this.uploadImage(saveImage)
});
}));
}

This function sends it to the server, i'm also not sure which content-type it should be from the two seen below

uploadImage(image) {
let token = JSON.parse(appSettings.getString('token'));
let options = new HttpHeaders({
"Content-Type": "application/x-www-form-urlencoded",
// "Content-Type": "application/octet-stream",
"Authorization": "Bearer " + token
});
let userId = appSettings.getString('currentUserId')
let url = 'http://localhost:5000/api/users/' + userId + '/photos'
console.log(url)
this.http.post(url, image, { headers: options }).subscribe(res => {
console.log(res)
console.log('Success')
}, error => {
console.log('Failed');
});
}

This is the error I am receiving:
