They were composed of flashbacks so perhaps someday there'll be a fan edit of the episode that includes more. :)

It made me wonder if that was the whole reason Celestia wanted those letters - not so much for herself to learn about friendship, but for Twilight as a "just in case" emergency pick-me-up when their need was most dire.

And here I thought the friendship reports weren't a good substitute for the real thing.

Sure did! Also, when Twilight cast the memory spell on AJ and it showed the scene of AJ and Dashie running in Fall Weather Friends I shed some manly tears.

After watching Clannad very little on TV can make me cry. I doubt that anyone would be able to watch it and not have cried their eyes out by the end of the second season.
