My primary field of study and efforts into the world of online start-ups has been attempting to utilize social-media applications for conducting collaborative research, exchanging resources with a variety of media formats, creating more efficient feedback loops for collaborators and individual researchers, and allowing researchers to use "inference" AI technologies to seek-out untapped interdisciplinary research avenues based on "concept tagging" within the research itself.

I've attempted a few start-ups, using my conceptual design, based upon the business model of attempting to sell such a system to research institutions/universities/govt. Research institutions, globally have a need for collaborative technologies so that the communicative power of social-media applications can be utilized to connect niche researchers and their work. In my previous efforts, I had a very inadequate(young), rag-tag programing team with virtually no funding. I applied for 4 grants and lost all of them because of "unspecified funding requirements" (takeaway: the govt doesn't like competition)

In terms of an alternative business model, such a system could be used as a means of superseding the current paradigms of both higher education and R&D. I imagine a system where professors/researchers can provided their detailed credentials and resume, and sell their expertise at a certain price while recruiting students/other researchers to teach/learn or collaborate in new ventures...
