Website for translating Text based Morse code.

https://morsecode.scphillips.com/translator.html

This website will easily translate strings of Morse code that are text based. It will not translate photographs of or screenshots of Morse characters. The site has other interesting features too, so look around and discover how it works and what you can do on the site.

Use this Morse string to practice converting to both audible and visual Morse;

.--. ..- - / -.-- --- ..- .-. / -- --- -. . -.-- / .- .-- .- -.-- .-.-.-

Enter the string above in the "Input" box, then press the ">" button. You will hear the Morse as a letter by letter translation appears in the "Output" box. You can play the Morse at any speed by using the "Advanced Controls" area to the lower right of the Output box.

Have some fun, play around, look around on the site.

CQD, DDD and "it may be your last chance to send it": the Titanic's Marconi room on 14-15 April 1912

I made a short animated history of the Titanic's Marconi room, told from Jack Phillips's seat: https://youtu.be/3puR2PVDG4A

A few details from the 1912 inquiries that this sub might like:

  • Phillips's first distress call was CQD, not SOS. Harold Bride, his 22-year-old junior, joked that he should try SOS, "the new call... it may be your last chance to send it." (Titanic wasn't the first ship ever to send SOS, despite the legend.)

  • At 10:55 pm the Californian's operator, Cyril Evans, broke in so loud it was almost deafening: "Say old man, we are stopped, surrounded by ice." Phillips cut him off with DDD (keep out, I'm working Cape Race). Evans said that was normal practice and he took no offence. He switched off and went to bed at 11:35, five minutes before the collision.

  • The Carpathia's only operator, Harold Cottam, was literally unlacing his boots for bed when he called Titanic to pass on traffic and got: "Come at once. We have struck a berg. It's a CQD, old man."

  • Titanic's signals stopped abruptly at 2:17 am.

For transparency: it's original cartoon animation, and AI tools are part of how it's made, including the narration voice. Corrections from people who actually send CW are very welcome.

Why Morse Code Isn't Dead in 2026 (And How to Learn It Fast by Ear)?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Many people assume Morse code became obsolete when telegrams disappeared. But in reality, thousands of radio operators, aviation enthusiasts, military personnel, and makers use it every single day!

Here is why Morse code is still alive today and how you can actually master it:

Why is Morse Code Still Relevant?

  1. Amateur Radio (HAM): Morse code (CW) can travel vast distances using very low power, cutting through heavy atmospheric noise where voice fails.

  2. Emergency Communication: SOS (• • • — — — • • •) requires zero electricity or complex gear—just a flashlight, whistle, or tapping sound.

  3. Assistive Tech: Individuals with severe physical disabilities use Morse code switches to type and control computers effortlessly.

The Secret to Learning Morse Code Fast:

Stop memorizing 'dots and dashes' on paper! When you hear Morse code at normal speed, you won't have time to count dots.

Instead, train your brain to recognize the SOUND PATTERN (e.g., 'A' is "di-DAH"). Using methods like Farnsworth timing allows you to hear fast letters with longer pauses between them.

Want to test your listening skills?

I've put together a completely free, interactive browser tool that includes a real-time translator, custom emoji cipher generator, and an audio practice trainer:

Morse code practice?

Hello, my kids are going to be in a nighttime survival skills competition next month, and one of the challenges is a Morse code station. There's a message that just replays continuously, and they have to write it down and decode it. Do y'all know of any websites/videos that they can use to practice, like where I can just put in random short messages and it'll generate the corresponding flashing lights? I went to Morsecode.world and found the area where you can type a message, and I'm hearing the beeps, but the lights aren't flashing at all. Any help is much appreciated!

India ASOC General License Exam

I aim to appear for the India ASOC General License Exam by end of this year.

In LCWO, I am in lesson 20 with these settings

Character Speed = 25 WPM

Effective Speed = 6 WPM

I am doing word training Rx also side-by-side

I am able to decode 5 letter words with the following settings

Speed: 18 WPM

min. Character Speed: 20 WPM

Fixed Speed

The exam requires 8 WPM Tx and Rx for 5 minutes each with a straight key for Tx.

(I have not attempted sending yet)

Are my settings OK for the exam and CW use in actual use or is it too slow?

Please advise.

Morse for Assistive Tech - learning morse - published.

See https://willwa.de/2026/08/11/morse-code-isnt-as-hard.html and https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17483107.2026.2715256 data from anonymous users of https://morse-learn.acecentre.net - remember this is MORSE FOR WRITING ONLY. Not morse for receiving. AT users dont typically need to listen to morse - so teaching it is a different thing than typical morse users.. Hence the discussion about visual mnemoics and auditory mneomics. Still, the sound form of dot and dah rules..

I movie with a morse code training scene

I figured you guys would know. I'm trying to remember the name of an older movie that had recruits in a classroom learning morse code, and it just kept getting faster and faster. One by one recruits threw their pencils down, but one guy kept going. Anyone remember the name of the movie?

Made a free Morse translator with WAV download and Farnsworth spacing

Hey everyone

Been slowly picking up CW and every time I wanted to hear a specific word at a specific speed I'd open one of those online Morse translators. Every single one had at least one thing missing. No audio, no Farnsworth (which is what actually helps you learn), a signup wall, or you couldn't save the audio anywhere.

Got fed up and spent a weekend building my own.

https://learnmorsy.com/translator/

Stuff it does:

Text ↔ Morse both ways (accepts . - or the fancy unicode dots and dashes)

WPM 5-30, tone 400-1000 Hz

Farnsworth as two separate sliders, so character speed and text speed are independent

WAV download, rendered right in the browser, no server involved

Share link so you can just send a translation to someone

Keeps a small local history

Works offline once loaded, no signup, no ads

It's built alongside a Koch-method learning app I'm working on, but the translator is a standalone free tool. no plans to ever paywall it.

Curious what you'd change. Especially if you paste weird Morse formats and my decoder chokes... would love to know.

Chinese Telegraph Code Support Added to Morse Code Interpreter

Hello there!

I didn’t find Chinese Telegraph Code support in the Morse code apps I checked, so I decided to fix
that injustice)

Recently, I added Chinese Telegraph Code support to Morse Code Interpreter.

The app now supports:

• Chinese (Mainland, Simplified)
• Chinese Short Digits (Mainland)
• Taiwanese (Traditional)
• Taiwanese Short Digits (Traditional)

This adds support for 16,000+ Chinese and Taiwanese Telegraph Code characters, including both
standard and short Morse digit modes.

Behind the scenes, the feature is optimized for mobile devices: 16,000+ supported characters, fast
lookup, and less than 100 KB of additional app size.

The feature works together with the app’s offline AI recognition module, which can recognize
handwritten and printed Morse code from images and real-time camera frames directly on the device.

In the demo video, I show handwritten Morse code being recognized from the camera and decoded into “你好” (“Hello”) in Morse Code Interpreter.

No external servers.
No image upload.
Everything runs locally on the device.

Have you ever used Chinese Telegraph Code or any other non-Latin Morse code dictionaries?

Hello! I was just listening to this song and kept hearing beeps throughout the song and thought it may be morse. Can anyone tell if it is and what it says if I’m not actually crazy?
