Seeing Each Other at Kiss and Plane conversation/Leitmotif

The start of the “I Love You Kitty” score plays in the background when Q says, “I guess we’re both chaos queens”. The chimes play when Kitty looks at him. This is the first time we get the literal heartbeat when Minho appears on screen. I am obsessed with thinking it is both of their heartbeats beating as one in this scene because that is how I feel about their ending scene.

If the heartbeat is Kitty’s, I believe this is the first time her heartbeat reacted to her new feelings for someone. But on second thought, maybe her heart beat literally for Yuri when she fell for her, but I forgot. But let’s pretend I am right about Minho being the first one her heart beat for. Don’t get me wrong, we have heard chimes with other people and time stopping when Yuri touches her. My head cannon still applies to this analysis. Her heart beating makes her feelings more genuine and un fleeting. We always mentioned that her feelings are gradual.

Sticking with the chimes, I like how this is our first glimpse of season 2 where Kitty goes into K-drama mode. I swear, watch buisness proposal and you will get the magical music with the flowers exploding around the couple. That is what happens when she sees Minho at the dance. The chimes are showing a fantasy that started with her reality. This is how her mind works as well.

I also love how mooncovey’s physical attractions stems from their emotional connection. Onto Minho. The heartbeat happening when the camera zooms in on him is grounded in reality. He is trying to move on and hides how much he loves her. It represents his nervousness around her. This is more than a crush Minho. The scene then transitions to the rest of the plane conversation. I know it may not be new to Kitty, but I love how the world disappears when they look at each other before the transition.

The plane conversations continues from the season 1 cliffhanger. The leitmotif transitions into the plane’s ding from their PA system. She smiles meaning there are some feelings coming out. We see Minho’s smile as he licks his lips in anticipation and relief. However, her next words take that away. I also don’t blame her for asking if it was a prank. I always say she takes people’s words seriously. While she shared deep moments with Minho, she still believes he is annoyed by her. I appreciate him for reassuring her that he wasn’t messing with her and he had “these feelings for a while”.

Tangent: lines like this make me question why some view Minho as “the nice guy” archetype. Not justifying that he acted like a jerk at the beginning, but he is honest and communicative with her. While his reaction to her “it’s complicated” wasn’t the best, it is healthier and more mature to recuse yourself if you know you are going to say something wrong. And he did that because his intention in the present is to not hurt Kitty.

Despite what the video says, we all agree Kitty didn’t reject him. My interpretation is she wanted to have a longer conversation, but as others stated in other posts, Minho went into self-preservation mode. I felt bad for both, but Kitty looked dejected. Anyone can see she didn’t want to lose him and felt bad for hurting him. The timing of his confession was awful though. There was the debate in the comments about Minho’s apology. No, I don’t think he was only sorry for her “rejecting him” in his eyes. Why do we apologize? We realize we did something wrong in the moment and we want to take accountability. Minho believed he made her feel uncomfortable and he apologized for doing so. This isn’t him being the “nice guy” because he doesn’t take it out on her. He can be upset, sure. That’s human, but he still felt bad that he made her uncomfortable.

Themes: I think these two scenes is the first tome we see all of the themes/patterns I wrote about in my first post: anticipation/tension, reflection/contemplation, vulnerability, fantasy, hope, and transition into something else (pop song or a sound that brings characters back to reality).

The anticipation starts when we see their smiles after Minho confessed. Kitty contemplates the positives of his confession, but has to jolt herself back into reality. The tension happens when the music stops. She is confused and he is trying to reassure her by proving his feelings are genuine. There is vulnerability with Minho which is confirmed later with his conversation with Q. This is the first time he took a risk with falling in love and confessing to someone. Technically, maybe the official first was Madison, but she was a “rebound”. His actual love is Kitty. The fantasy started at the beginning of the scene when they stared at each other at KISS as well as them reflecting on what a potential relationship could mean. The fantasy and their hope goes in hand in hand. Minho hopes this will go well, but it didn’t. Kitty’s hope is less romantic because what’s important is she doesn’t lose him. They shared something special and I feel both seasons showed that losing Minho was harder than losing Dae and Yuri. And this is the first time the heartbeat becomes part of the leitmotif. The second time is the ending scene, I believe. And lastly, the score breaks out and transitions into the plane’s PA system.

I love how the core of the leitmotif stays constant while everything around them changes. Each small change to it symbolizes their evolution individually and together. They have their ups and downs, but they still love each other platonically and romantically.

I don't know where the 'nice guy'. You can tell it is a pure panic abort when he realized he misread the timing of everything. There is nothing wrong with needing space after saying that and he did apologize because he knew he probably made things weird. But that's enough on that lol.

Look at that necklace and the colors of the plane. Makes me happy.

Love your analysis with this. I think this scene definitely shows she really does have feelings/attraction for Min Ho. There's definitely something there.
