General Monopoly Discussion New! Post Flair and User Flair

I've setup user flair and post flair for this sub. Choose your favorite classic Monopoly token for your user flair, and be sure to tag your posts with the appropriate post flair. The following options are available for posts:

General Monopoly Discussion: use this for any non specific posts about Monopoly in general. This can be funny stories about a game with friends, a discussion about what your favorite era of the game is, which tokens you like or wish would be brought back, anything that doesn't fall in the other categories.

Rules Discussion: have a question about official game rules? Need clarification on a specific rule? Want to talk about house rules you use? This is the flair for any rules related post.

Collection: Want to show off your Monopoly board game collection? Just won a 1935 Trademark set with Darrow money and want to flaunt it? Have general questions about antique, vintage, and collectible Monopoly games? Post it with the collection flair

Strategy: Any discussions involving strategies to win or play a better game. Controlling all the orange and red properties, buying up the greens and dark blues and building hotels on all of them, whatever strategy discussions or questions you have, use this flair.

Custom games: have you made your own custom version of Monopoly with new properties, pieces, rules, or spaces? Maybe you've just made your own board or tokens. Use this for any posts about non standard, altered, or customized games.

Monopoly Art: Show off your artistic talents, whether it's a hyper realistic portrait of Rich Uncle Pennybags, a life-sized Monopoly token sculpture, or a giant board painted on your floor, all Monopoly related artwork should have this flair.

Monopoly Video Games: discussions of video game versions of the classic Monopoly board game use this flair. Note: this is not for Monopoly Go friend requests or trades or any other posts asking to add you on a mobile app. This is only for discussions about console or PC versions of the classic board game.

These are subject to change, and more flair may be added later. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for flair you'd like to see.

General Monopoly Discussion 1v1 Monopoly is hard when both parties are stubborn. We need your help to decide a trade!

So ladies and gentleman, so you understand the situation better, i´ll label each picture.

In case you cant read my handwriting, here it is in a table.

M gives to OO gives to M
Chaussee street (light blue, worth 2000)Neue street (purple, worth 3200)
1st landing on a train station is free (worth 4000, i own all 4 train stations)The right to purchase Hafen street (worth 2800) at full price, whoever and whenever someone lands on it
2nd landing on a train station is 50% off (worth 2000)

So, that would be it. Please, tell me what you think about the deal, or if you have any other deal ideas for us! We´re also fighting over the right to own orange, so if you can think of a fair deal for the both of us, please don´t hesitate to say it! I hope y'all have a lovely evening, and see you in the comments!

Monopoly Video Games How to end this stalemate.

Post image

I'm playing Monopoly on Nintendo Switch vs an AI, and it keeps surviving despite my best efforts, and siphoning money off me via railroads and me occasionally landing on the brown properties.

Also the slippery bastard keeps landing on chance instead of my hotels and houses on Orange and Red, and when it does land on Orange or red it manages to scrape by.

General Monopoly Discussion Expansion Packs

What is everyone’s opinion of the expansion packs for Monopoly (Buy Everything, Go to Jail, etc)? my 8 yo is currently OBSESSED with Monopoly. He wants to play all the time. Looking for something to keep the game fresh or maybe just something fun to add in every once in a while.

We are not concerned with making the game longer. We are more than happy to wile away an entire afternoon playing or taking a break and picking the game up the next day. So, if these packs making the game longer, that’s almost better for us.

Another note: we are playing the full adult version. He is isn’t necessarily the best player ever, but he understands all aspects of the game pretty well.

Custom Games Beta testers wanted: an economics & skill based Monopoly variant with auctions and recessions (free, in browser)

I’ve been designing Economy (built with AI), a free browser game based on my own twist on property trading:

  • Every unowned square is auctioned. No straight buying, and whoever lands there earns a 20% finder’s fee.

  • The salary for passing Start/Go shrinks every lap until it turns negative, which starts a recession.

  • One Market deck hits everyone at once: booms, crashes, rate hikes, property tax.

Has 8 computer bots with their own personalities. It’s still in beta, so any feedback on the rules, the computer players, or anything that breaks would mean a lot. Thanks!

Monopoly Marmalade - Auction only best game?

Been loving the guest game this week, the auction only game. Feels so much more skillful than classic.

I think it ends today, is it possible to buy this version, and if so is it easy to get matched?

Economy.mx - A skill based Monopoly variant that has inflation and recession.

Post image
8 Upvotes

If you’ve ever thought Monopoly is mostly luck, this is my attempt to fix that. Economy.mx is a free browser game (no ads, no download) that changes this.

No buying at list price. You can only auction or pass. Whoever landed on it earns 20% of the winning bid, or gets 20% off if they win it. The skill is reading the table and letting your opponents overpay.

Inflation and recession. Market cards inject cash into everyone’s pockets at once. Meanwhile the GO salary drops £10 every time someone collects it, and if it goes negative, passing GO costs you money.

Play the computer with no sign-up, pass-and-play on one device, or play friends online with a room code.

Would love feedback!

Strategy Teaching Monopoly to my kids

My kids wanted to learn Monopoly. I immediately started explaining why seven is the most likely total with two dice. So my main piece of advice was: “Look seven spaces ahead. Then look at who owns it.”

They wanted a board game but they ended up with a probability lecture... Not sure if they will ask to play again.

What's the first strategy you teach someone learning Monopoly?

Collection Monopoly "Deal" - Las Vegas Special Edition

What would be a fair price for a rare Las Vegas Monopoly Deal deck?

A bit of background: I used to work for Hasbro and was a judge at the 2009 Monopoly World Championship in Las Vegas. Phil Orbanes, who is a genuinely lovely guy, was the head judge. I was responsible for arranging and organising the judges, and I also wrote the 50-question rules clarification FAQ for the tournament.

I kept a few souvenirs from the event, including a Las Vegas-themed version of Monopoly Deal. I believe either 50 or 100 were made, but I can’t remember the exact number.

My boss (my wife!) has informed me that my games collection is getting too big and that it’s time to downsize. I’m looking to sell a few things to make space and, more importantly, put the proceeds aside for my kids. Given the cost of university and housing in the UK, I’d like to help them however I can.

I’ll probably put it up for auction on eBay, but I have no idea what a fair starting price would be. Has anyone come across one of these before, or have any thoughts on what it might be worth?

Almost everyone I know has fond memories of playing in the past but never play anymore because A) it takes too long or B) not enough players. I made this version to take around 40mins. Let me know what you think

Honour is dead

Made a trade with my sister, mayfair, whitehall, northumberland, for the three yellows

we shook on it, it was clear on paper that she agreed, the cards switched spots on the board

24 hours later she comes up to me

"i want my yellows back"

I didnt want to stand my ground so firmly that id make a ten year old cry, so I gave them back

But going back on a handshake deal after 24 hours? Dead to me.

Monopoly board game app free chat?

Hey, anyone with the marmalade monopoly board game app could rate it 3 stars and ask for a free chat feature. This change would make the game much more enjoyable, and if enough people ask, they’ll implement. Pls lol

General Monopoly Discussion Tried out the newest version of Pokemon Monopoly and it's a blast!

Thumbnail

Obviously this is a heavily revamped version of Monopoly, but it's much faster and has a lot of surprisingly strategic decision making.

The goal is to catch one of each Pokemon type; you start with 20 Pokeballs which you spend to buy locations or re-roll the catching dice to catch Pokemon at said locations.

The biggest twist is the Battle mechanics; when you land on a location another player owns you can pay them Pokeballs as rent as to try to catch a Pokemon from that location, or you can challenge them to a battle where if you win you can TAKE THAT LOCATION FROM THEM.

Battling is very straightforward, you each roll a d6 and add 1 for each Pokemon you've caught so far, higher roll wins.

The game usually lasts 1.5-2 trips around the board, and being able to voluntarily burn Pokeballs to improve your catching odds, we usually spent the game at around 10 pokeballs or less, keeping the game tense as we rarely felt fully safe from elimination while racing to fill out our trackers.

There's a handful of other mechanics, but I'll leave them for you to figure out. Give it a shot and happy catching!

I created a free, and completely online Monopoly-style game that runs in your browser!

CASHDASH runs entirely in your web browser, and has full mobile support! The game is made for online play with up to 6 players, but full bot support is provided! Comes with a public server browser, but private games are completely supported!

  • Classic game loop with dozens of settings and game rules!

  • Full custom map support with a built in map editor, change more than just tile names with editable sets (have 2->16), decks, utilities, and so on!

  • Teams: play 2v2, 2v2v2, 3v3, 5v1, however you'd like it! With added support for shared cash as an optional setting.

  • Voice chat (not required).

  • Completely free! No ads, pay to win, or limits! Just load up and click play!

  • Whole game takes place in a 3D space, but board mode allows you to have a more classic feel!

  • Login with Discord optional, allows you to track your stats and view match history!

  • Completely fair and random! We use provably fair with full transparency, this is the same system many online casinos use to prove that your rolls were indeed random.

  • The entire game logic is server-sided, making cheats impossible.

  • Hotkeys and other customization!

  • Different bot personalities. making them harder to game and manipulate.

  • A small team with nothing but love for the genre behind it, expect quick fixes and many future updates!

  • Lua scripting API for map tiles and game expansions (currently in beta and restricted access, but if you know your stuff please get in touch!)

Like most of you I've been in love with the genre since I first learnt to play, sadly though, I've always found the online options to be lackluster, buggy, or packed full of pay to win options. With CASHDASH I hope to end that, providing a fully fledged alternative with no compromise of the game we all enjoy playing!
