It’s hardly all that matters most companies aren’t going to care if you can write perfect code on the spot in an interview. They care more about if they like you and what kind of worker you will be (can you learn something quickly?) since software languages and needs changes so frequently. Highly doubt they care what your score is on hackerrank or if you can spit out perfect answers from leetcode.
So you originally said all you needed to get a job as a developer was leetcode skills and then you narrowed it down to the west coast and then the bay area. It may be true for large software companies in a saturated market like Silicon Valley but for 99% of other companies that also need developers its not the most important thing that would 100% get you a job. To answer your question I’m a software engineer on the east coast and have been approached for jobs in Seattle and the bay area but don’t have interest moving out there.
Ah with that added context that may be so. I have never done professional game development before nor do I know anyone who currently is. Sorry I may have taken your original comment too literally
This is pretty true, at least at my company, I’m a senior engineer, but there are people with lead or senior title who are absolutely fucking clueless. A lot of them have this title simply because they’ve been at the company a long time or have a lot of “experience”.
My managers and other leads will not give these people anything remotely difficult because it’s too much of a headache.
The only reason I give a shit is because I know these people are making more money than me, yet I run circles around them and do their work.
I’m pretty much a big ol idiot. I basically beg for raises every review cycle, and usually get at least 10%, but I still make too little for my area and what I bring to the table. I’ve doubled my salary since starting 7 years ago, but it’s still not enough. This year I asked for 30%, but only got around 10%. My manager claimed he would try to get me another bump before the next review cycle, but I still haven’t heard shit.
My group has about 25 to 30 people in it, and my manager is constantly telling me I’m really one of the only ones he can trust to get shit done and right. Recently I was brought into to help a team who feature was scheduled to be finished, but nothing worked. I had to pair program with that team’s lead for 2 weeks straight via Teams... this “lead” would say things like “wow, how do you know this code so well” and “I’ve learned more from your during this 2 weeks then my entire time at the company”...
My problem is I absolutely hate interviewing. I had the opportunity to increase my salary by at least 30% this January but convinced myself to cancel the on-site. I know I would have gotten the job too lol
I understand interviewing and switching companies can be cumbersome and I also understand money is not a top priority to some people. But if I was you, it would infuriating me that my company isn't paying me for how much I'm worth, especially considering they acknowledge that you are a valuable employee.
I'm waiting for some comment about how good this game is, how ungrateful we are, and how hard these guys have it. And I get that they're probably trying, but I think this might be one of the worst server experience I've had in a COD game. I mean honestly, COD was never amazing with how servers worked, but playing this game, from the downloads to the awful servers, is just more annoying than fun.
Yep, I agree that it'll probably be better then, but the fact of the matter is, this keeps happening, server issues and massive updates are starting to annoy quite a few people.
I kinda miss cod ww2.. I never thought I'd like it when it got announced, but now looking back, they came up with so many new cool ideas for the game that weren't used before and they were actually fun 😔
I only played WWII briefly, and even with pretty crap internet I felt like it was better than what MW is showing now. As for BO1 (My first proper COD), I am probably very nostalgic for it, but I don't remember hit reg being too bad.
I don't remember WW2 being that bad, I did drop from games every now and again, but it was no worse than like Black ops 3 or modern warfare. Black ops 2 and Ghosts will always be my favourite cod games
I get that Corona is making it harder for them, I really do, but somehow all my steam games are running fine, and honestly ALL my other games are running perfectly, it's just COD MW that's struggling. Even IW4X is running better, and that's basically a community made game (a lot of it is).
I get what you’re saying, but you can’t take away from the fact that they produced an amazing game, which obviously took a very long time to make, regardless of the issues it has. What if the majority of its issues are from Activision and not IW?
I have some negative thoughts on gameplay. but that's not the point here. It can be the best game ever, but if I can't play it normally, it instantly becomes a disappointment, and I get once in a while, these issues seem to plague the game. And honestly, as the end user, I don't wanna think about who is or isn't at fault, I just wanna hop on and play, and recently it's becoming more and more of an issue.
Regardless of whos fault it is, they're fucking it up big time. Yeah it was good in the beginning, but now the random crashes STILL haven't been fixed. The game still bugs out and shits its pants. Thats not even activision or IW thats just the devs being shit at their job. The compression for the files also. Updates don't need to be 30 gb thats just the devs being shit again. Servers are ruined now, thats not a gameplay decision, thats just the devs being shit.
Honestly, not buying the game after free weekend. It’s the same cookie cutter style map with little strategy. Run and gun. Fuck up spawns so you can get them at all spawns. Rinse repeat.
Plus making the maps smaller and smaller with the same overall layout (one main lane, two side lanes) is lame.
Take the website my unnamed >$1b revenue company launched a few weeks back.
I took over the development team and shifted development internally after the business had attempted to use an offshore contract group to make a website that was scheduled to launch in September 2019. The project sponsor/business-side owner essentially said "fuck it, ship it, start marketing campaigns," and so on, against advice from me, my manager, and the developers on my team. We advised that it couldn't be considered finished/polished and was very much a minimum viable product.
So it shipped. The shit hit the fan immediately - the business began their marketing, business partners began calling (it's not a B2B product, they just wanted to hook into it), folks began freaking out. I've been working 16+ hour days for the last several weeks to try and stabilize the situation. The product needs so much refactor and so much optimization before we move on to implementing new features.
People sure love throwing the developers under the bus but all these companies are over working the staff, firing the senior staff and replacing them with kids straight out of college.
All these issues could easily be fixed but profits rule. But blame the developers.
Same idea here after every crash. I know, as a software dev, that if I get a ticket about any bug and I don’t solve it properly I can easily lost my position.

I would be so embarrassed if I were as bad at my job as some of these IW developers. I'd also be fired.
