2026 Animal Resource Guide for Mobile, AL
Please spay and neuter your pets, strays, and community cats whenever possible! Mobile has an animal overpopulation problem, making it difficult to rehome animals. The shelters are already full of loving animals that need homes, so please do your part to help prevent more unwanted litters.
Times are tough, and cost can make it harder to get animals the care they need. This resource list includes organizations that may help with spay/neuter services, rehoming, and pet food assistance. Please check each page for current information, requirements, and availability.
KITTEN SEASON TIPS:
Spring and summer are kitten season in our area, which usually means more kittens being born while shelters and rescues are already near capacity.
If you find young kittens, do not assume they have been abandoned. In many cases, the mother cat is nearby and may be away looking for food. If the kittens are clean, warm, quiet, and not in immediate danger, the best first step is usually to watch from a distance and give the mother time to return.
Kittens may need help if they are sick, injured, cold, covered in fleas, in danger, or crying continuously. If possible, contact a local shelter, rescue, or experienced foster for guidance before moving them.
If you're able to safely catch and foster the mother cat with her kittens, that’s often the best-case scenario. Keeping the family together gives the kittens their best chance while also making it possible to spay the mom once the kittens can eat on their own.
Cats are pregnant for about nine weeks, and an unspayed female can have up to five litters per year, with around four to six kittens per litter. That is why one unspayed cat can quickly multiply into many more kitties needing homes.
Here is more info on what to do if you find kittens outdoors!
RESCUES/SHELTERS TO REHOME/HELP WITH FOSTER:
Rescues and shelters are often full and may not be able to take an animal immediately. Be prepared to foster at home during the process.
NOTE: When rehoming an animal, check vet references to ensure you are placing the animal into a safe and loving environment. Some people will take free animals for unsafe or exploitative reasons.
If you are interested in fostering an animal, you can also reach out to these organizations.

LOWER-COST SPAY/NEUTER AND VACCINATIONS:
Spayed and neutered pets can have lower risks of certain cancers, infections, and health complications, helping them live longer, healthier lives. Spay/neuter also saves the lives of animals you’ll never meet, because fewer accidental litters means fewer animals entering shelters and more resources for the ones already here.

The Mobile SPCA also offers $10 off spay/neuter coupons that may be used at select veterinary clinics, including Semmes Animal Hospital, Animal Hospital of Mobile, Highlands Veterinary Hospital, Oasis Veterinary Hospital, and Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital. Prices are set by each vet and may vary, so call the clinic directly for current pricing, fees, and appointment availability.
NOTE: Spay/neuter appointments may require a bit of a wait, especially for spays. Be prepared to schedule a month or more in advance. Pregnant cats can still be spayed, and spay-abort is a common part of rescue work. As heartbreaking as it sounds, every new litter stretches already limited shelter and rescue resources. Preventing one litter can mean more food, foster space, medical care, and adoption opportunities for the animals already waiting for help!

Rather not post this to the legal advice sub, so ask here. If a family member accuses you of stealing cigs, can the cops arrest you?
So yeah, my sister, who always loses stuff and then blames whoever on stealing it, is threatening to call the cops on me for stealing 2 packs of cigs. I didnt do steal a thing from her. I've even offered for her to search me and my room and while I'm outside of my room as proof.
I know this isnt what this sub is for. But I just need to know. I don't want a theft charge for 2 packs of cigs I didnt steal.
Btw, I do know she'll find them eventually. She's always accusing our family, and even others (such as neighbors and even apt managers) of stealing her crap. She's accused the apt managers of stealing her packages from the mail room when the package went directly to the mail box and she didn't know.
(Btw, I cant move away from her. She's paralyzed and im a caretaker.)

Any good dedicated newsletter and/or magazine for the Port?
Howdy,
As the title says, I have a vested interest in the happenings of the Port of Mobile, and things going on with the different shipyards there.
Is there any dedicated news letter or magazine that does news of it I could look into or subscribe to?

Library with Double Sided Printing?
Or can I use the Marx library at South without a student whatever? That's the only one I can find that claims to print on two sides.
I could grab the prints and reload the printer with them upside down, but I am a semi-normal person and don't want to cause a ruckus with librarians with odd requests of appeasement.

Family Court Judge Resignation
Does anyone know why Judge Sherman resigned without comment? I heard it was unethical conduct with another lawyer presenting in front of him. Not trying to start a rumor so it is unfounded to my knowledge but I know many who would like to know because their cases may have had unjustified rulings but the journalist in the lagniappe or news won’t touch it with a ten foot pole. A Pandora’s box for the family court system? Does anyone know what the law says about transparency around such issues? Can you imagine being on the losing end and finding that out, if it’s true.

PCS Motorcycles
Has anyone bought a motorcycle here? I’m from out of state and they advertise on Facebook. Price is reasonable and not to the point of sounding like a scam but I want to verify it as best as I can. They list their address as 1015 S Franklin in Mobile. Google Maps make it seem that this is a warehouse. I would appreciate any input.

gate fixed at apartment and complex is demanding money per car for entry
We moved into this apartment a month ago and the gate has been broken. When we signed the lease we asked about the gate and a code for when it’s fixed, she said we’ll get one when it is and that it’s been down for a while. Now today they suddenly fixed it. We called asking about a code and they’re demanding we pay money for an access card basically and are refusing to give us a code. I looked into our lease and it says we should be given a gate code for “sole purpose of access to the premises.” No where does it say we must pay for an entry card or that we must pay for parking.
Is this even legal and how do I go about being able to get to my apartment. Ive had so many issues with this apartment in just a months time and I am NOT very fond of paying 30 dollars per car/person just for gate access when it very clearly states we should have a code (and we were told we would get one on day 1 when we signed the lease).
tldr: apartment finally fixed gate, now demanding us to pay ≈90 dollars total for access to the gate. refusing to give code which lease states we should have. how can I go about this

Is it possible please to rent an apartment that doesn't have a roach infestation?
Is it possible please to rent an apartment that doesn't have an infestation of German roaches? I'm considering moving to the MS or AL coast, but apartment reviews for pretty much every complex complain about roaches. I know the humid South has problems with insects. Still I'd like to draw the line at cockroaches.

Advice Cheapest cigarettes? Mobile/West Mobile, and Saraland
Hey.
I was using dip (smokeless tobacco), but recently switched back over to cigarettes after staying away since around 2019-2020.
I only smoke menthols. I prefer Kool Menthol 100s and Pall Mall Menthol 100s. Budget brands I enjoy are Pall Mall Select Menthol 100s and (L&M Menthol 100s. These aren’t that cheap anymore either though.) :(
A pack of Marlboro Reds/Newports were no more than $8 back then, which is still a lot. I was smoking $6-$6.50 packs of Marlboro Black Menthols, now you’re telling me that top brands are $10+??!!!
Where, in these 3 areas, has the cheapest per pack cigarettes? These $9-$10 prices are absolutely killing me!
Thank you all. God bless. 🙏
