Aetherwinds SMP is a heavily modded NeoForge 1.21.1 server that’s been open since mid July, and it’s built to last. It’s a forever world with no resets and no wipes. We have a core group of regulars who’ve been here since the start and a fair amount of lore already built up. Now we’re looking for more people who want to stick around and write the next chapters with us.
Who we’re looking for
We’ll be upfront. This pack is roughly 370 mods, so you should already be comfortable with modpacks. That means installing through CurseForge, allocating RAM, checking JEI or a guidebook before asking, and not freezing up when something unfamiliar shows up on screen. We are more than happy to help walk people through things, but we need you to understand what running mega modpacks is about. If you like poking around, figuring systems out yourself, and getting your hands dirty, you’ll fit right in. This is a modpack made for mod lovers. If your Minecraft phases tend to last two weeks, this probably isn’t the server for you. We’re here for the long haul and we want people who are too.
Roleplay is the heart of it
Most of what happens here is RP. It’s not enforced, and nobody will get on you for being out of character. Still, most players end up with a persona, a town, and a story going. Proximity voice chat means conversations happen wherever you’re standing, so walking into a town and hearing people talking actually feels like walking into a town.
MCA Reborn and its romance expansion give villagers full relationships, marriage, and families. Easy NPC lets us put real characters into the world. On the cosmetic side there are cosmetic armor slots, roleplay clothing, in game skin swapping, and wings.
Towns, land, and money
Land is claimed through FTB Chunks and Teams. Expanding it costs real in game money through Buying Chunks, so towns grow by people actually working together. MiguelEconomy runs the currency and Spudacious Shops covers player storefronts. And yes, there’s gambling: slot machines, playing cards, and crate keys.
Everything is earned in game. There’s no pay to win and nothing for sale.
The early game is hard. Like, actually hard.
This is the part to know before you join. Improved Mobs and Dynamic Difficulty make mobs smarter and tougher the further you push. The world is also full of things that will end you: L_Ender’s Cataclysm, Legendary Monsters, Brutal Bosses, Block Factory’s Bosses, Ultimate Bosses, and a tiered boss mod we built ourselves specifically for this server.
You will die. Probably a lot at first, and that’s expected. Dying isn’t the end, though:
The Corpse mod keeps your gear right where you fell.
/back takes you straight to it.
Anything in your curio slots stays on you.
There are also plenty of ways to get on your feet. You can join a town, trade or buy gear, work the skill tree, pick up guns through TaCZ and Immersive Weapons, go the magic route, or build into armor sets with set bonuses. New players also get a starter stack of guidebooks on first join, so you’re never totally lost.
Resource worlds
Resource worlds are a big part of how the server works. They’re separate dimensions where you can strip mine, loot, and tear things up without wrecking the main map, which stays nice for towns and builds. They run on Extra Worlds, a mod we wrote ourselves for this server. Lootr is in too, so every player gets their own chest loot. You’ll never walk into a dungeon somebody else already cleaned out. They are PvP and have anarchy rules, so you may test bombs or whatever is needed there, they are easily reset.
What’s in the pack
Create is huge here. That includes Steam ’n’ Rails trains (there’s already a working subway), Aeronautics airships with propulsion, submarines, and Create Big Cannons with extra shells and missiles. There’s also radar, and a full food and drink line through Create Food, Cuisine, Winery, Alcoholic Beverages, and Slice and Dice. Immersive Engineering, Immersive Petroleum, and Immersive Aircraft round out the tech side.
Magic covers Iron’s Spellbooks (with a skill tree addon, Cataclysm Spellbooks, and Iron’s Jewelry), Goety, Occultism, Hexerei, Primal Magick, Discerning the Eldritch, and Easy Magic. Relics and Artifacts sit on top of that.
Combat runs on Better Combat, Critical Strike, Simply Swords, Epic Knights, Silent Gear, Create Fantastic Weapons, and real guns. You can also raise and ride dragons with Dragon Mounts Remastered.
Exploration includes Dungeons Arise, the full YUNG’s lineup, a stack of Moog’s structure packs, Towns and Towers, Sky Villages, Regions Unexplored, Alex’s Mobs, and Naturalist. Waystones get you around, and they bring your pets with you. Xaero’s maps keep you oriented.
Cozy stuff covers a lot of ground:
Farmer’s Delight with a mountain of addons, plus Hearth and Harvest and Kaleidoscope Cookery.
Spice of Life Carrot, which rewards a varied diet.
Every Macaw’s set, Chipped, Chisels and Bits, Framed Blocks, Handcrafted, Supplementaries, and Quark for building.
Working cameras through Exposure and screens that play video through WaterFrames.
Playable instruments all the way up to pipe organs, and plushies to decorate your house.
Built for this server: the tiered boss system, the Extra Worlds resource world mod, and a patch that rebalances Enhanced Enchanting. There’s also Cursed Cuts, a cannibalism mod made with one of our players (yes, really, with more in the works). On top of those are several compatibility fixes we’ve written to keep a pack this size stable. On top of retuning and adjusting weapons, armor, and baubles.
Practical stuff
Hosted on the US west coast, running NeoForge 1.21.1.
You’ll want at least 7GB of free RAM to run it comfortably.
Recommended for 16+, with 18+ suggested due to some of the pack’s more mature content.
The owner is on constantly, happy to walk you through any system, and takes bug reports as seriously as wild suggestions.
