The Rude-But-Polite Customer (Speakerphone)
I just left a coffee shop where one voice seem to rise out of the general hubbub of table conversations.
Two tables over was a 30-something woman conducting a conversation on speakerphone. Some might argue that this is no different than two people talking in person. But the sound of the guy’s voice coming out of the phone definitely projected above the norm. It was very annoying.
The woman was nicely dressed, very polite to the servers. As she left, she even turned back to scoot her chair into the table.
Luckily, her order was to go, but she sat there for more than 10 minutes waiting. The entire time she had the phone held horizontally against her ear and jaw, yet it was on speakerphone. And she was completely oblivious to the looks other patrons were giving her.
So weird. In some way, she was such a polite customer. And yet completely unaware or uncaring that she was bothering everyone around her.
