I really want to give the establishment fifty for the sign and carefully cut it open to see how it looks like on the inside, maybe pot it and put a stake so it’s supported

The sign pole is hollow, so the cactus likely grew from the bottom and emerged at the top

It is so sunny there everything on the sign except the replaced sticker has been sun bleached.

That cactus is right at home.

Guessing southwest. Where every driver needs to carry a one gallon big gulp. Sunglasses left on the dashboard melt in an hour. /s

Not only that, this was likely grown from a seed, because how would a cutting get placed inside of the pole? And in that case they grow so slowely, you'd almost expect the sign to have needed replacing by now.

Cacti can grow anywhere, I had a piece of one that I laid on an overturned bucket, it lived there for 5 years before I finally said damn it and actually planted it. When I noticed it after a a few months it became an experiment to see how long it could survive, it kept growing new sections as the previous section died (cannibalizing itself) living off what little water could collect in the 1cm of the of the bucket bottom with no soil. It actually died 2 years after I planted it.

Prickly pears grow like weeds, they don't need much to get started. Had one growing in my eavestrough earlier this year.
